CP reflects the IVs and level of the mon. Better IVs = bigger CP. Higher level = bigger CP. Honestly, CP doesn't mean that much when comparing different species of pokemon. Elemental strengths and weaknesses (mon itself and its attacks) and the total stats of the mon are more important. If a mon has poo poo base attack stat, having a 15 IV on top of that doesn't do much. Pirate Jet posted:How rare are Dittos? Pirate Jet posted:Hey y’all. I’ve started playing this game again after hating it at launch but playing it anyways cause it was a cultural phenomenon. I’m pretty pleased with what they’ve done with updates since and I think I’m gonna stick with it this time. So I have a few questions that are probably exceedingly dumb, but I haven’t played a main series Pokémon since Gen 3 when I was 13, so bear with me. Starting at the first: It depends on what you want to do with them. If you're raiding, you want High IV, High CP pokemon generally. Even so, you probably want to consider Type advantages as well. It's pretty easy to find a list of the optimal counters for a given raid boss, which can be useful even if they don't have exceptional IVs. CP takes priority if you're interested in doing Great or Ultra League PVP, as they cap pokemon at 1500 and 2500, respectively. Ditto seem to vary in rarity a lot. Events (one's going on now) seem to make it worse. Always be Curving if you can. Only time I don't is on side-to-side movers and a couple that I just can't seem to figure out the angle on. It doesn't matter when you level your pokemon, it costs the same regardless. Only consideration is if you end up wanting to do PVP: adding a second charge move to a Baby pokemon (pichu, elekid, most of the ones you can only hatch) is much cheaper than adding one to their evolved forms. The biggest XP dumps in the game are hitting ultra and best friends, at 50k and 100k. When you're about to hit one of those is generally when you most want to use lucky eggs. Especially if you can coordinate multiple at once. Add whoever you want. Worst that happens is they don't accept your invite. Or never open stuff you send them. Or never send you stuff. At which point you could always drop them.

I understand CP is just a general evaluation of your Mon’s efficiency, but leveling up a Mon costs exponentially more stardust as you do it, right? And I was told I should conserve stardust. Don't power anything up until you're at least like, level 20 or higher. Stardust is valuable and you'll be catching stronger and stronger Pokemon quite quickly in those early levels, there's no reason to use stardust on anything when you can just replace it with something better. IVs aren't that important, they count for about 10% of the Pokemon's stats but they don't make a huge difference outside of PVP or whatever. At this point in the game though even high cp Pokemon you catch aren't going to be that high. Unless you're really REALLY into this game it's usually a better choice to just keep your poo poo iv mon that you caught at level 30 than to power up your 93% one that's going to take 180,000 stardust before it's comparable. That's not to say you can't do both though, I evolve high cp low iv Pokemon to fill out my roster until I can train up one with better IVs. Pirate Jet posted:How rare are Dittos? I saved a list of what they can disguise as, but I’ve been catching them as they pop up for weeks and still can’t complete that drat quest. Expect to get stuck for literally months if you missed an event tied to the quest. Slugma, gulpin, and the fossils will probably give you similar issues. Be patient, it could be a long time. Pirate Jet posted:Is it worth forgoing a curveball if it means I’m not confident I can score a Great throw with it? (Excellents seem impossible but maybe I’m just bad.) No. Practice those curveballs on every throw until you CAN hit greats. Excellent is a lot tougher, don't worry about that right away. Pirate Jet posted:I know the OP says you should evolve your Mons in chunks with lucky eggs, but for max efficiency is there anything else I should wait for? A certain trainer level, or should I level up Mons before evolving? This is old news, the spree you're saving up for cracking an egg on now is hitting Friendship tiers. Mass evolves used to be a good way to squeeze some xp out of the old super grindy system but they've been surpassed by other methods, particularly raids and friendship. Good IVs are only worth chasing after you have some high CP guys worth fighting with. •Dittos are very rare. Sometimes research quests will have it as a reward but not currently. •Curveballs up the catch rate significantly, practice them when you can. For Pokemon that are really far away (Zubat, Rhyhorn, etc) you can just toss straight. •Friends overall is quickest but if you have room to store a bunch of Pidgeys, feel free to do mass evolve too. Pidgey are harder to come by now since more Pokemon have been released, so mass evolve strategy is getting less relevant. •Add anyone, but I suggest people who are newer on the list since they'll be in the same situation as you. Older players probably already have a huge list of people to open/send gifts to. If someone isn't sending/receiving gifts with you for a long time, drop them. Do be forgiving sometimes if people can't do friend stuff every day. btw here's three of my baby accounts that aren't inundated with friends so feel free to add them: KS - 0618 8273 5001 AS - 1164 8652 1637 FS - 8911 6176 8266 Willsun fucked around with this message at 17:14 on Mar 11, 2019 |

Like others have said, don't bother killing your Pokemon inventory space and stockpiling Pidgeys and Sentrets for mass evolving because the friendship system has totally broken the low level xp grind into pieces. Just add a bunch of goons from the spreadsheet in the OP and you'll speed through your 20s and into the mid 30s in a matter of weeks or less. You're much better off spending your time playing this game doing actual fun things like raids and PvP than mindlessly evolving stuff for tiny bits of xp. I wouldn't worry about IVs until you hit level 30 or higher either because Pokemon will rapidly increase in CP and you'll be replacing stuff left and right until then. Focus on assembling a solid team of strong dudes of several types like Tyranitar, Rhyperior, Roserade, Espeon, Dragonite, Machamp, Mamoswine, Salamence, etc, for raids and easy gym battles, rather than chasing IVs early on. You can very easily stack your roster with more than adequate strong rear end Fighting types during the current event too, including Machamps. Fighting is pretty much always useful, thanks to the prevalence of Rock, Steel, and Dark types, and the high attack of most Fighting guys. I joined some online PvP tournament run through Discord to help coordinate battles for people who can't compete locally. People get sorted into groups of ~20 where they then spend time building up friendship with one another until everyone is ultra friends and a tournament bracket can be completed remotely. I think I've made it about 4 days into this before realizing how absolutely loving retarded it is. I have yet to do any actual battling and there is an entire month of tedious bullshit ahead of me before I can even try. After having this moment of clarity, I ended up downloading Jurassic World Alive and within 15 minutes I was battling people with a working matchmaking system in a significantly better battle system.

Yup, I have no goddamn clue why Niantic created such a dumb PvP/friends system. No matchmaking or actual global online system beyond the most barebones features, awful lack of real sorting options, mediocre rewards, arbitrary gating. The list goes on. Niantic has made some decent strides in other areas, but they have no idea what they're doing when it comes to PvP and long-term friendship design goals.

The biggest issues with raiding are being unable to view details for anything outside of visible range and not being able to see how many people plan to attend, both of which can be alleviated by using Discord chat. There are many city- or region-specific servers that people use to raid. My local servers (LA and SFV-area) use bots to automate the reporting/RSVP process and are extremely well-organized. If I have some time free to raid then I pop open discord to check the list of currently active raids along with # of people who plan to attend. No time wasted driving around for empty raids.

Really appreciating that they added TM quests this month. I have three more I'll be able to grab on my way to meeting a friend after work, and assuming these quests stop spawning in April, I should have hopefully hoarded enough Charge TMs to compensate for the game switching back and forth between charge moves I don't want. Fast TMs are a different story since they require 3 raids for one, but it'd give me something to burn my excess raid passes on if I manage to stack 3 of the quests. e: vvvvvv ugh, I did not realize that, thank you. I know what I'll be doing on my lunch break, then. Themata fucked around with this message at 21:59 on Mar 11, 2019 |

I've always wished they would implement something like this, where the general range of IVs in 20% chunks would be represented at a glance by some kind of glow or aura effect. Kinda had the same thought about wild spawns, to represent how much longer until they despawned. Niantic lacks the creativity to do something like this, though. The blue glow is just last 24h poo poo.

I'd even be happy if they just had a raid at every gym, regardless of what kind. Then again, I still want instanced raids where you pick the level of raid and boss, even with the ability to make higher tier bosses into a hard solo/duo for rural players. Less candy, and a lower catch level, to make up for easier access to legendaries. Knock off 1 candy and 5 levels for each tier down.
