Holy poo poo. I talked to him for like 5 minutes in 2016 Saturday morning before qualifying in Montreal. I told him I needed more cutouts in the fence since we had to cover the front straight. He got it done for me. He was a very good dude.

poo poo. For all the issues F1 had, Charlie knew the sport inside and out and seemed to genuinely want to push the sport forward safely and fairly, even if he didn't always manage it. I can't think of anybody who could fully fill the role, esp with the race only days away.

Everyone at Scuderia Ferrari is deeply saddened to hear that Charlie Whiting has passed away. Comment from Team Principal Mattia Binotto “Charlie was a true professional and extremely knowledgeable, but more than that, he was a wonderful person, who always treated everyone with respect. A tireless and enlightened motorsport expert, he helped make F1 safer and better. He was a pillar of Formula 1. Our sport is diminished by his passing and we have lost a friend.
