I saw both Alien and Aliens in large-format at the Toronto Cinesphere a few months back, and the audience was animated as gently caress, hollering after "get away from her you bitch!" and a handful of people were reciting Hudson's lines as they happened.

The best moment of audience reaction I've experienced in a theatre though, was for The Matrix: Reloaded on opening night. Remember that cliffhanger ending right before RATM kicks in and the credits roll? Imagine a theatre packed with 300 nerds, many in hilarious cosplay, simultaneously groaning and yelling in something between anger and appreciation. It was palpable.

Scrub.

You’ve clearly never experienced the spectacle that is Grease with Olivia Newton-John Travolta singing “Summer Nights” on the big screen.

Alien 3's production was such a wonderful clusterfuck, it's amazing it turned out kinda comprehensible. Like they were faxed script changes from LA while filming in the UK and at one point there was supposed to be a wooden planet or something?

David Fincher was just handed a bunch of footage after other directors were sacked and the studio basically said "make it work, good luck."

Yep, this actually creeped me the gently caress out as a kid so much that I would leave the room while someone else was putting on the game.

I was thinking of the last reply I made re: Grease and now I'm sort of riffing on bizarre crossovers with the Alien universe and other popular films in my head. Like if the body in Stand By Me had a completely unexplained chestburster wound, or the Beatles were running away from a horde of xenomorph drones instead of groupies in A Hard Day's Night.

AvP and AvP 2 are two totally different movies in my opinion. AvP was more of an adventure film. The main hero is the one you know from the very beginning of the movie. It's a big mystery for half the movie and you discover why the Predators hunt the aliens. The ending is... interesting with the hero with the alien armor/weapons and teaming up with a Predator so the predator ends up being the GOOD guy.

That's actually a major plot in the Alien vs Predator books.

The character (Machiko Noguchi) is a recurring character in a bunch of the comics/books that followed, so it kinda makes sense for them to crib that for the movie.

As to AvP:R being darker, if you didn't realize it when they show a facehugger attacking an 8 year old in the first ten minutes, I mean...

Boring game tie in: In Watchdogs 2 the millennial hipster hackers have a back and forth about something or other because they name drop LV426. But it's real ham handed and they get into an argument about who would win Predators or Fred Flinstone or some other cringe worthy attempt at seeming "hip"

Grease for sure. Alien ostensably takes place in the future of the "real world" timeline that Grease also exists in. The Matrix posits that humanity has been living in a constructed world that could be the far-flung past or distant future. It could take place in any timeline. Ours, its own, or even the one where Link fails to defeat Ganon.

Metroid was unambiguously inspired by Alien. The big evil dragon Samus fights is called Ridley even. The countdown you have to escape at the end of most Metroids is straight from the movies.

Grease is set in one of the early versions of the construct called the Matrix, one of the nice ones that ended up being rejected by humans for being too perfect.
