Folks I have bad news, I was looking up some of the stars and what else they'd been in

Remember Peter Parker's landlords daughter in Spiderman 2 that was cute and kind of into him?

That's Zelda the librarian

A kingdom of rats.
"Napster" was such a great, yet deeply stupid joke.

Also I have no idea who is in charge of the little episode blurbs that show up on IMDB and stuff, but I only just noticed they're all bizarrely hilarious this season.

I was so hoping to find out what 'TV man' the monster was paying a visit to. There's a million ways that could have been a great joke, esp. since he was gone the whole episode.

Fen is great. Yet another minor character that has grown into being a main and has an actual arc; these are always the best kinds of characters even outside of the Magicians, though this show has so many great ones.

How are the ratings going at the moment? I hope this show sticks around for a long while, it's showing zero sign of slowing down.

It was renewed before the season even started so Syfy is going to keep doing this regardless of ratings.

Wow that was a bizarre one, had some great lines though.

Looks like Fen is becoming a bigger character which is good, although Fillory still seems like a weird side story at the moment. Presumably they're going to join things up more later.

Seems like the idea of a rebellion against the library isn't going to be a major story line as I thought, with Alice losing her motivation and Kady wanting to give up the guys who blew up the library.

This show is actually pretty good it's like modern Buffy or something.

I wish they'd spent season 4 just chilling in the bestiality kingdom and doing fun stuff after finally getting magic turned back on, tho.

The constant downward spiral of Alice is both amazing and frustrating. You’d think turning into a soulless monster made of pure magic would be the low point of the character, but here we are.

I like how they took the smartest and most talented character and made them the eternal gently caress-up. It's a great subversion of the trope.

This line, coupled with the build up to it in when Margo referenced ambien in passing in previous episodes, is pretty subtly one of my favorite jokes in the history of like, TV, period? Somehow? It's so inherently silly and I could see it as a throwaway bit with lesser writers/characters, but it makes so much sense contextually and it's played completely seriously and I absolutely loving love it.

That being said, this series continues to be pretty much the hardest sell of any show I've ever enjoyed. Like I'm definitely trying, but when some of the moments that have made it (imo) the best show on TV in recent years are a musical episode featuring David Bowie, sexually transmitted lycanthropy, and Peaches and Plums, Motherfucker, I don't even know where to start.

So given it seemed very much like the same actress, who wants to guess the Napster () and that lady are the same person after all?

I sincerely hope she's just an rear end in a top hat trying to get Margo dethroned for throwing her in some strangler vines.

ThePagey posted:

I thought about that the other day; even that joke had multi-episode setup. It's real attention to detail.

I'm glad I had no idea it was a Syfy show. I caught the first seasons on Netflix, and due to all the swearing and really hosed up violence I thought it was a Netflix show. I would have literally never, ever watched it if I thought it was a Syfy production. On the flipside, that also made me realize that maybe they're making interesting good shows now?

I really have no idea how to explain the show. One time I called it Harry Potter or Narnia if they were sometimes nihilistic cosmic horror comedies. If you ever watch one of those and wish a character would scream an F-Bomb and pull a gun on a dragon egg, Magicians is your show.

I think the hardest sell for some people and what you need to brace yourself for wanton cute animal murder. Jesus. Right from the very beginning they're accidentally murdering the adorable school mascot, at least a dozen cats explode (I won't mention what Renard does to one..), we've got bunnies with blood pouring out of their eyes, they steal celebrity pets to tear out some hearts.. like Goddamn they do Mortal Kombat Fatality level murder anything small and fluffy.

One thing i like is one of her biggest problems is just how self centered she seems to be. She's finally learning and addressing it now and while her parents certainly played a part I think this ep pretty much explicitly showed that a large part of her issues are her own doing/thinking.

All of this is kinda funny because at the start of the show I would have sworn Quentin would be the one dealing with this lol

I constantly describe the show as “Harry Potter but everyone is a little bit broken” although that stopped being an apt metaphor somewhere in season 2 so I’ll have to turn it into a Narnia version.

“Narnia but with Cock Barrens.”
