Carly shook her glass, willing the ice to melt. "You still haven't told me what the mission is."

She leaned forward. "We are going to assassinate the bad men of Hollywood."

Reminds me of Tink and the Bangas, who also did a tiny desk concert.

Since the Elon Musk thing I'm getting over Grimes' eccentricities. She's still one of my favourite musicians but I'm definitely not loving this ride any more.

I guess I'm just glad she's weird/crazy and not like a sexual abuser or some way worse poo poo. Because yeah it seems like she's gone off the deep end but I'm still definitely gonna check out her new album.

We Appreciate Power was loving great and I hope the rest of the album is similar, but yeah, she absolutely has Musk-induced brain rot.

Can anyone recommend stuff similar to "mean everything to nothing" era Manchester Orchestra? I like their recent stiff but liked their more high energy, southern-rock-ish stuff more

She went off the deep end a decade ago, we just never fully caught on until now.

I haven't understood the recent uproar with her. Everything she has done this past year has been so loving on brand. She hes been crazy since the start of her music career, just appreciate the music she puts out.

It's been out for a while and I didn't see it mentioned here, but the latest Metric album, Art of Doubt, is their best in a long time. Strong recommend.

Kinda meh on the new Tame Impala. As usual, "it sounds really good" ... It's a mashup of their usual sound and disco, but the imho the disco doesn't really work because of the production style. The bass line and percussion are pretty muted and it doesn't really feel danceable - also the phasing and flanging are straight annoying, especially around the bridge at 2:30.

I'm getting addicted to this album the same way I did the first. It's not as immediately infectious as that one and at first I thought some songs needed their bpm buffed, but after eight listens I totally get it. "Another Dimension" specifically was one I thought was screaming out for a speed boost but now it's easily my favorite. I love this band.

it was like a week ago but Lizzo apparently burned down the house at SXSW. hopefully this means more tour dates for you folks in here who have mentioned her! i am lucky because she came up through the minneapolis music scene, so she comes back often :)

she also launched a new song, a collab with missy elliot! and her new single "Cuz I Love You" is great, especially if you didn't know she could sing (she can sing)

I like listening to her records but you are correct that she is a phenomenal live act. She really can rap and sing that well, and dance, and be charming onstage. When she used to live here she would show up randomly at shows of other musicians she is friends with. I got to see her sing backup/duet at a Har Mar Superstar show one time and it was bonkers.

e: fun fact Har Mar Superstar is named for the Har Mar Mall, a small shopping center in the area that has seen better days. the biggest change at Har Mar in recent years was when its local city council voted to ban pet stores citywide because the pet store at Har Mar was so creepy and gross

I'm seeing Death Cab (for the 2nd time) in a couple weeks so I'm revisiting Thank You For Today in preparation. I still think it's their weakest, or maybe their second weakest. Its competition for that title is Codes and Keys. Nevertheless, it's better than I initially gave it credit for.

These aren't bad songs, I just don't think any of them are real essential Death Cab songs either.

That's awesome! I had a feeling they'd work better in a live context than they do in the studio versions.

I don't hate the collab with Missy but I think it's a little too repetitive and underwritten, which doesn't play to either of their strengths as much as I would want.

I'm really hoping she comes to Europe sometime soon.

e: Oh poo poo she IS. Not a lot of dates and none of them are close when I'm in town, so I guess I need to figure out whether I can afford to go over to Paris for it.

Really wish I was in town for this. Lizzo, Janelle Monae, Tank and the Bangas, and more coming!

Nice! Over here in the midwest I have to decide if I want to see them at a festival or drive like 3 hours.

But if I wanted to, I could see them like 5 times this summer. Two festival dates and three sorta-far-away dates.
