How much do they think golf costs?

I hate that I know this but my ex's dad bought a lifetime membership to a golf club he lives near for I think $80k. (Which like I'm sure a yearly golf membership would be less? But who knows.) Technically this membership can be passed down to someone else later on and it includes family guests and stuff but holy poo poo. That money could have gone to so much other stuff... but it was his and that's how he wanted to spend it.

Pretty sure any hobby can get super expensive at the top end. Honestly $2k for a desk hardly surprises me but for that money I would've picked something that was a lot more tasteful.

I refuse to this believe this FUD. CIG's amazing FOIP technology is a revolutionary game changer, which will have a huge payoff as other companies line up around the block to license it.

A: When you discover a jump point, you can file a claim, and when you file a claim it can be named after you. But filing a claim makes it public, so you always have this dilemma. Do you want to keep it private, only for you and your friends, but if you keep it private and someone else finds the jump point and files the claim, then it will be named after them instead of you. So it's up to you when you discover things whether you want to share it with the world or not.

Q: What is there for Explorers, besides discovering jump points?

A: There's quite a few extra things we are doing for Explorers. *Interlude about 67% wanting to explore.* We started thinking about more things we could do for explorers. One of the great things about having the community involved early, you can know what is important to them. Besides just discovering jump points, there's a lot of extra stuff where any system will have some areas that are basically charted, there's a lot of areas that you will have to fly into space to map. And you could maybe discover an asteroid field, and that asteroid field may have minerals in it, and as you map it, that asteroid field will show up on your navigation map in your computer and you can send tohse points to your friends or potentially sell them to a store for them to sell to everyone else and you could get a royalty for it.

So you can do mapping beyond just discovering jump points and there are some other things we are working on the exploration but basically there's a fair amount of discovery that we're gonna let Explorers explore. So the idea is that we're going to have almost 70% of the actual usable space is unexplored. And so the Explorers can sort of fly around and a lot of it may just be empty space but then you'll occasionally find something special, an alien wreck or an asteroid field like [he] said with a mineral field, and you'll have that. Do you want to share it with your friends or not?

So about 70% of the 5 starting systems are going to be empty. How long do you think it'll take for players to find all the "hidden asteroid fields" and poo poo in there? How long to find all the hidden things that actually have any value (unlike the asteroid fields they have currently)?

In a well-designed game this would be easy to address. Asteroid fields would constantly spawn at random places, be discovered, mined out, and then disappear. Rinse, repeat.

But nothing of that matters because there will never be asteroid fields of any type to discover in SC.

they pick golf because golf is "the thing rich people play". like, sure, its popular image is of expensive country clubs that you can only get into with mounds of cash, but that's just rich people being rich. there are also cheap holes that are like $20 a run, and a decent pair of clubs will cost you about as much as a decent surfboard or kayak, or less than a decent mountainbike or hangglider.

they just assume that what it looks like in media is what it is, and they have no outdoors interests to compare the actual costs to.

They're just going to do the hidden signal source "Random encounter" system from Elite. Scans generate little markers, warp to the marker for a pregen random encounter. We all know it. They know it too. They just won't admit it.

Thing that amazed me was at first approach the planet was just a washed out muddy looking sphere with rectangles all over it, it looked like crap and people in chat were saying it was beautiful.

Then they get excited because once at area 18 the "traffic" starts moving even though it mysteriously freezes once it leaves area 18.
