The Scots didn't vote Thatcher into power. They gave Labour twice as many seats as they gave the Tories. Sheppard didn't say "better Thatcher than keeping that government!!", he said said he would have done the same thing, i.e. voted against a confidence vote in a government that hosed his party over. Here's the full speech where he follows up saying he would do the same thing by adding that they didn't vote for 18 years of tories.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB6Ro1cNTaM

Labour would super like to frame any dissendence against them as voting to make a Tory PM dictator but it's pretty rich to accuse the SNP of being Tory sympathisers.

Also it's pretty bad timing when the SNP has been way more on top of Brexit stuff than Labour.

The SNP are on top of brexit because their population voted to remain. Labour can't just ignore brexiters and it certainly can't set itself up as an opposing force. I'm wondering what kind of idiot you are? Scot nat or FBPE?

It's over on the 11th unless they make a deal, which they won't

At that point they are kicked out, no need for elections

historically in the us the "populist era" refers to a big movement among farmers in the late 1800s to go off the gold standard because it hosed over farmers for the benefit of finance. there was a Populist Party and everything. bryan was the big figurehead who eventually ran for president. it was decidedly a left wing movement:

quote:

The Ocala Demands laid out the Populist platform, calling for collective bargaining, federal regulation of railroad rates, an expansionary monetary policy, and a Sub-Treasury Plan that required the establishment of federally-controlled warehouses to aid farmers. Other Populist-endorsed measures included bimetallism, a graduated income tax, direct election of Senators, a shorter workweek, and the establishment of a postal savings system. These measures were collectively designed to curb the influence of corporate and financial interests and empower small farmers and laborers.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Party_(United_States)

the term was poisoned in a political act of conflating socialist demands to empower small farmers and laborers with fascism by referring to the early-20th century american fascist demagogues like eg father coughlin as populists

I think the best way to make up for colonialism and to even the scales would be to grant full citizenship to everyone in all of a country's former colonies.

So for spain, anywhere in latin america that was colonized by spain, they are all granted spanish citizenship, can come and go as they please, can vote, etc.

Ditto indians etc for britain.

Spaniards or British might protest that this would result in hoards of foreigners, who don't care about the country, coming and dominating its politics, and even looting it.

But turnabout is fair play.

Read the histories of any of the primary Spanish colonial families from the 14th to the the 16th centuries, what they conquered, how that wealth was distributed, and how it was brought back to Spain. Why else is the cathedral of Seville covered in gold and not the one in Chile?
