Any state in the US that touches the rockies has a standing warning to not park hot cars on grass because of that, especially in late summer when everything turns brown.

If you fart too hard that poo poo might ignite.

This makes absolute sense. Once the tires catch on fire they can clear more brush quicker hence expediting the rescue attempt.

Pure genius.

My dad's retired now, but he dailied a '91 Dodge Cummins for years, then an '07 Dodge Cummins 4x4 until he retired in 2016. He also used both to tow goose-neck trailers, all kinds of crap in the beds, and all manner of off-road and farm shenanigans. Both trucks (he still has both...) sport more than a few back-woods racing stripes.

I mean the idea "late capitalism" is a bit ridiculous anyways, but I don't think the workers in China own the means of production any more.

Oh don't think I wasn't searching Craigslist for ramp trucks when he first bought it. It fit well with my Lemons dream.

Your dad and I had the same trucks, except mine kept both of them because he's a hoarder.

I agree with you as well on not chopping the trucks, I saw a beautiful old Mercedes couple the other day with a hard top and it was such a nice greenhouse and low belt line.

In reference to the thread title there seems to be an increasing contingent of incredibly bitter boomers on a lot of car enthusiast forums, who are very salty about all the young-uns these days driving around Mercs, Audi’s and BMWs, or indeed any brand new car on leases/PCP finance.

You see because back in their day they had to work really hard, scrimp and scrape, save up and go without, do lots of hard graft etc etc. Back in their day driving around in a BMW was a sign you’d worked really hard to get yourself to where you were but now any SNOWFLAKE!!!!1 can wander into a dealership and drive off in a new one on finance but if you can’t buy it in cash right then you can’t afford it and a premium badge doesn’t mean anything anymore blah blah blah blah.

Depends on the car. Could have picked up a Countach when the market fell out in '08 for probably 70-80K.

But then those are hen's teeth. I enjoy someone else eating depreciation on everything else I buy.

As much as I enjoyed calling the last Thunderbird the "Thunderchicken" to get under the skin of a friend whose mother drove one and thought it was the pinnacle of automotive engineering, it really didn't try to do anything more than what it was - a big, heavy, boaty cruiser that wasn't particularly fast despite having a V8. Kind of like the original.

No, they did a nostalgia one after the Thunderchicken:

This one.

The previous gen 'chicken was almost a full foot longer.

As far as the three, I think the Prowler was ultimately the most disappointing, since they chickened out and didn't put a good engine or a manual in it. The SSR was a legit good sports truck, I'd say the HHR would be the more hated since it didn't really have anything going for it. As far as the above, most people are going to be "thunder-what?"

The correct answer of course, is the PT Cruiser.
