But if he can recoup some of those millions by extracting a payment from wealthy actors it will fix everyone's money problems! It's a slam dunk victory.

The rapid temperature shifts and precipitation basically made the pavement explode. Bloomington also has other road problems, like our lovely sewer system that is incredibly old and should be replaced. The sewer system aging and breaking down is making the roads fall apart way faster than they should be in the oldest parts of town, but there's no way people will agree to increased taxes to fix it, much less the extensive construction time and inconvenience that will result. So we'll continue to just patch holes.

I can't imagine my final ballot will have all that. Is it possible to go to my polling place and get a sample ballot that only has what that location would have on the ballot? Or is that not something that is really offered?

Well I have good news and bad news from downstate (that only affects us but others must share in my pain) Bad news: my county had a 1 cent sales tax proposal to be used for school building and maintenance funding. Due to having two major interstates running through it, it was estimated to bring in $5.2 million a year and mostly from travelers through the area. All of the other neighboring counties have passed one and it has benefitted their schools immensely. It lost here because people are stupid and MUH TAXES! Good news: my home town had a school board election. A few years ago, one of the members sent confidential, private information about a student (the son of the school board president) to people outside of the school system. He says he was elected by the people to bring transparency and accountability to the board. After it was found out that he had sent this, the Board stopped sending him any information and pretty much excluded him from internal discussions. He sued and had been a general pain in the rear end for the last 3 years. He has cost the school district hundreds of thousands in legal fees (already a strapped school) and has taken on some pretty aggressive behavior (both legal and physical...he said the son of the school board President assaulted him while shaking hands during graduation and tried to have the kid arrested). He was up for re-election and he lost...easily. In other words, southern Illinois is a land of contrasts.

Good and bad in Central IL, too. The Bad: Looks like the chuds took back 2/3 of the Normal Town Council. Still got a Dem Mayor & awesome Town Supervisor, but the ground game from the local Dems was simply lacking this time. I didn't even see a solid Voter Guide. The Good: Bloomington's amazing YWCA director and community activist Jenn Carrillo unseated a 5-term Republican incumbent for one of Bloomington's wards. Jenn made some news last year when she shared Hamilton Nolan's rallying cry, This is Just the Beginning and the local Republican Sherriff, Police Chief, and loving State's Attorney all accused her of promoting violence on account of um... a picture of a burning limo? Well, gently caress them because now she's on the council.
