What's the story behind this?

It's actually not as big of a failure as it looks. It's an overflow pot in a steel mill, and sometimes they fill up quicker than intended and you get that result. They wait for the steel to get cooler (still extremely hot) and go in with special excavators to scrape it up.

What kind of scale are we looking at there? It's hard to tell if that crucible is the size of a minifridge, a car, or a house.

i would guess its cheaper to have molten metal shipped to where you need it than to build a furnace at scale

Another factory wants to cast something, and it's easier to ship molten then to put a lot of effort into cooling it down then a lot more effort melting it again.

It looks like the tree got tired of life and fell over. Happens to some of the older trees in our town, it's always unnerving to see the root structure poking out of the ground when it happens.

Speaking of tree dropping... anyone remember a vid posted here a while back of someone's neighbor chopping down a huge tree and dropping it right on their own house? I know there's lots of vids like this, the one I remember is specifically of a neighbor across the street and, more importantly, that the tree is absolutely huge. An absolute king of trees. The biggest tree. If the video you think I'm thinking of isn't the biggest goddamn tree being dropped on a house vid you've ever seen then that isn't the video.

which is pretty loving ironic considering the logging cut he put on it

there is no good way to fell a tree of that size next to your house that doesn't involve topping it down or putting a line at the top to guide
