Last month's theme was Unidentifiable which I won with The belly of an F-111. This month's theme is Emergence. There's a regular definition and a STEM/philosophy definition. Use whichever one you want. Or make up a plausible alternative definition. Be as flexible as you want. Entries close on or about March 31st, but probably April 1st. RULES: This thread is for posting pics & voting. 1. One submission/poster. You can change your submission as many times as you want, so long as you only have one entry when the voting begins! Edit your post to do this, please. 2. Single photos only - no video, triptychs, or multi-photo entries. Blending exposures into a single image (such as focus stacking, or HDR), is ok though. 3. Photos must be taken during the period of the contest. No pulling out old favorites! 4. Contest will be open until the last day of the month at 11:59 p.m. EST after which voting will begin. 5. Voting will continue until some time after that, probably around midnight the evening of the 2nd or 3rd. 6. Use good judgment/good taste if venturing into NSFW or potentially offensive territory. PM me or a mod if you have questions. 7. When voting, please use the spoiler tag. I or the mods reserve the right to amend the rules if needed. The winner will be awarded THE GOLDEN APERTURE and picks the next theme, and makes the new thread!

Great Crested Grebe Courtship Dance by Aves Lux, on Flickr During the courtship dance both birds submerge and then emerge from the water with weed in their beaks which they wave at each other, which is incredibly erotic if you are Great Crested Grebe.

I honestly wasn't expecting that, this was a month of really good submissions. I couldn't have done it without the Fujifilm Acros R film simulation and the combo of cheap lighting and insufficient custodial budget provided by the SF Metropolitan Transit Agency. I'll try to get the new thread up today.

joat mon posted:Soulex, how did you get that shot? I was shooting a sports venue and I realized that there was this kid that was standing behind me that I could possibly try to capture his reflection off of during the National Anthem. The plexiglass in front let me focus on him, kinda, because we kept getting bombarded by random lights. So what ended up happening was a few of the pictures showed the plexiglass in front with him in focus (I wanted to superimpose him doing the national anthem against the imagery of it being performed) but the camera would not have it. Instead, it made him look like he was going to disappear into the ether and I got all these really weird lens flares due to the lights going through the plexiglass. I thought the photo was neat despite it being a happy accident. Thanks for asking!
