Given someone made a new Bubsy game recently, it means the licensing wasn't buried deep enough and that might actually be possible.

Any model 1 with a real YM2612, but the launch unit and VA6 are the preferred units. VA6 is my preferred sound, since it's properly balanced, but some people prefer the launch unit because it has slightly heavier bass, at the cost of popping on the high end if you don't run the audio through the headphone jack with the volume slider set to 8 or 9.

I hope the genesis mini has some extra horsepower in reserve so I also don’t need to keep a second genesis hooked up with my 32x.

Very cool that the SG has more core support, that was unexpected after hearing that the NT didn't.

So they're both Cyclone V FPGA's right, perhaps we'll be seeing streams crossed and these cores on the NT and the NT SNES core on the SG? I mean technically there's no reason not to, especially if the M30 controller's buttons are fully understood with the Jailbreak.

I think those systems all used a subset of the Genesis hardware. They probably just needed smaller tweaks to the existing core.

I played with the code to give you lower stats and higher luck to make it a challenge. I made a rule that I wouldn’t farm the Crissaegrim, but of course it dropped like the first kill on the guy that drops it anyway somehow.

The Mega Drive uses Master System hardware for some functions, the Master System shares its VDP/CPU with the Colecovision (or near enough) and the Game Gear is 'basically' a SMS with different registers, resolution and palette.

Yea, the Collecovision core is a surprise. Would love it if it got most of the cores the NT got. I get the feeling we probably would have already seen a Nintendo core on the Super NT if it was going to happen. Would still buy a $190 NT if they ever do it.

They all have z80 cpu's, which perhaps makes it super easy. Still though if flash space is permitting, i'd think you could fit completely different non-68k / non-z80 cores. Regardless, I'm happy even without all of the Jailbreak stuff.

It's beyond just the Z80 though. The ColecoVision and the original "SG-1000" design that became the Mark III/SMS later have identical sound chips, the Master System uses a revision of that chip compatible with the original SG-1000 games in the Japanese region (though strictly speaking the Master System unaltered will play some sounds from the SG-1000 or ColecoVision slightly wrong, but the FPGA implementation can be easily modified to handle them). Similarly, the SG-1000 used exactly the same graphics processor as the ColecoVision used, and the Mark III/SMS used a slightly more capable version with full backwards compatibility.

International market Master Systems never bothered to include direct support for playing the SG-1000 games that were never released outside Japan in the first place, besides a very brief time that it was for sale in New Zealand. There was a "computer" version of that console which was released in a few more countries outside Japan but that was even more unpopular.

A reasonable amount of unlicensed Mark III/Master System titles in Japan were designed to just run in the SG-1000 compatibility mode since you could poo poo out a game faster that way.

Same! Seeing everyone go bonkers about the Shield Rod making you practically invincible, I always wondered why they didn't think the game wasn't already broken enough with the Crissaegrim. I prefer it anyway, even if it doesn't heal you since it's way easier, more satisfying and fun to use.

That's why I get more fun these days out of breaking the game out of my favor. A Tyrfing lowers your attack by 30, and then a Ring of Ares ups it by 24, but then tanks your defense by 24, and also that sword has the lowest swing speed so you should never attack on the ground. And then equipping nothing else.

Leads to stuff like this where I have to kill Galamoth with jump kicks because lol at hitting him with the sword.

Good! When you receive your card allowing you to post in this thread in a few days, you can just throw out the temporary paper one. Be sure to shred it, though, so no one can dig it out of your trash and use it to post in the retrogames thread without owning Steel Battalion.
