I’m pretty sure Steamed Hams is the first time I recognized or caught The Simpsons referencing a real place I’d been before. It was a deeply grounding moment.

Verily, the whip is ghost riding.

I had the Dankmus album playing in the car and some random walking by yelled "Steamed Hams!" at me and shot me a thumbs up.

My daughter loves the album except for the "Snrub" song as it terrifies her.

Oh, not in Utica, no, it's an Albany expression.

Also, Rochester is Western NY, not upstate...Ithaca I think, too? Utica is sort of central.

Though I suppose to anyone in NYC or Long Island, anything slightly north of Westchester is upstate.

"Upstate" is one exit north of yours on the Northway until you get to Albany.

I grew up in Syracuse, and when I moved to near the PA border (Binghamton area) I got dirty looks for calling it Upstate ("We're in the Southern Tier! :argh:"). My brother, who moved to NYC, came up to visit and called us all Upstate as well.

That's my upstate story

Sup, 607 buddy

Southern tier is pretty much Binghamton on west. I’m a little ways east of there and called it either “Upstate” or just the Catskills
