Found a really interesting series the other day and proceeded to read through all the available chapters, twice. Name is Ragna Crimson and is a fantasy/Post-apocalypse series about a world besieged by Dragons with the titular Ragna the blood edge being an otherwise unremarkable hunter until circumstances happen and his future self thrusts decades of training and experiences into the now present Ragna with the hopes of averting the disaster that drove his future self to madness and despair.

What follows is Ragna's crusade to slay every dragon on the planet and more specifically, the "winged clan" that oversees them all. As for the rest
The other lead character, the traitor Crimson is an incredibly charismatic villain protagonist. The right mix of cunning and theatrics and she supplies a lot of the personality of the story since Ragna is kind of a broken man. Her character reminds me of Vyrde from '7th Garden' and I'd say both stories share the similar ideas such as framing them as the Lucifer archetype of a fallen angel. And the main characters working to stamp out the corrupt "angels" that contort and destroy the world.

Of the most recent chapters the fight between Artemesia and Ragna is easily one of the most interesting fights I've read this year. One solution to a time stopper that's I rarely see is attacking the person before they can initiate their power. Artemesia having an automatic localized time rewind was the perfect crutch for her. Ragna giving Artemesia such a one sided thrashing, while Crimson's subordinates ran interference, only for everything to be reverted back and then crumble to pieces was masterfully executed. For a character that hadn't been around for more than a few chapters I bought into everything Artemesia was feeling as her sense of control and composure were shattered just as quickly as her body could regenerate. How she handles herself going into the future is of great interest to me after that level of psychological trauma.

The art of this series is great, and there are a lot of good pages and spreads but this is by far my favorite one.

That's a good manga.

Crimson was utterly insufferable for a while but once Ragna starts loving up her plans constantly it was great again.

Oh yeah, getting a feeling that Higuma and Ne0lation are bring given the "wrap it up" signal.

Higuma just had a high tier badguy who killed his parents show up, and it really has a feeling of a truncated story.

Ne0 is having a full background dump done, which this early seems not to be a good sign.

The only weird thing about 7DS's pacing was Arthur getting built up so much and then unceremoniously destroyed.

I honestly feel like the manga is ending on its own terms rather than being cancelled.

Darth TNT

I have no idea how popular 7DS was, it has an anime, it has a movie, it had spinoffs by different authors and a game was recently announced. Yet, only Mangastream is translating and it doesn't have much buzz surrounding it. It doesn't even have it's own thread on this undead forum.

The ending so far feels weird yes.
The final battle doesn't quite feel rushed, but some parts did. Like the whole Original Demon thing (complete with him surprised at hearing the voice of the old man in his head), Mael showing up, being effective for 1 chapter before standing at the sideline cradling Ruedicel. (or however you spell that) Or maybe the Mangaka made the right choice in not dragging it out.

It's definitely not Bleach level trainwreck but it's not completely satisfying either.
It's a shame because I do think that 7DS had some really great things going on.
I hope that the epilogue is going to be satisfying. :)

More pressingly, what about Zeldris? :ohdear: It feels really weird for everyone to just be standing around being happy when potentially Zeldris is right next to them either dying or dead after literally saving them from the demon king. Zeldris was a good brother.

Sindai posted:

Supposedly the Mangaka really wants to do an Arthur spin off, so that may be the reason why he's currently quite dead. He's going for a sword in the kidney stone story. :v:

7DS is pretty popular and sells a lot of volumes in Japan at least. This does feel oddly rushed, or the mangaka was just like "Eh this other stuff isn't really that important". Arthur I bet was intended to make a surprise reappearance, Ban literally never got his sacred treasure back, etc.

I loved this mini arc. If someone were to show me this I'd immediately decide to keep reading this manga.
It was so stupid.
I'm torn on outfitting Rebecca with a swimsuit though. It comes so out of left field that I couldn't help but laugh.
But it serves no purpose other than the authors horniness which is a bit annoying, but considering the other stuff he's put her through it's not that surprising either. :ohdear:

I just need to get a little more of my sensitivity eroded by reading Hiro's work.

I don't know, maybe this translation is not accurate? Anyway, it just pops out of nowhere and not exactly the ending I was expecting for that plotline, but it's ok I guess.
