Sure Groening took his name of a Futurama episode too because the staff re-wrote one of his jokes. I forget the details, but he'd written something as an actual scientific joke, which nobody in the writing room got. So they made Leela(or whoever) make a pun about it instead which got big laughs and Groening threw a fit.

I started to sour on Futurama when literally every other joke was a subversion of its futuristic setting. They’re going down an elevator... but its Scruffy operating a pully! LOL It reached a point by the end where they basically weren’t living in the future at all.

PostNouveau posted:This one was actually produced by Al Jean and Mike Reiss as some sort of compromise package to use The Critic team to take the load off The Simpsons staff. Under that arrangement, they also produced "Round Springfield" that season, which is the one where Bleeding Gums Murphy dies that is also not a well-loved episode. I think I've brought this up before but both those episodes weren't shown in Australia in the first run of season 6 (along with the clip show ep) and I've no idea why but it is an interesting coincidence. When they were shown a few years later it did make their flaws stand out more. While A Star is Burns has lots of classic moments it does feel a bit off in some ways and the other two are among the weakest of that era. I think I've only seen that clip show once tbh.

The Futurama movie about David Cross being this weird mind-control alien was the nail in the coffin for me, I was frankly astonished that I was watching a single “episode” of Futurama for over an hour and just didn’t find any jokes to laugh at. The fact the first episode back after that was a Leela//Zap fan fiction was painful, it was the first show I ever abandoned before it was cancelled. S4 true Finale, everything after that is just Farnsworth Dementia Bob Newhart style. Some of David Cross’s work, like Todd Margaret, just eludes me, I don’t laugh, I don’t like it. This felt like that. I have a thought experiment: self-torture goons, what is the FUNNIEST episode from the last decade? Can you think of an episode exclusively from 2010-present that made you laugh or had some serious laughs, or even just a good couple gags? I don’t mean one good scene, I’m asking for a funny episode.

I had some Mandela poo poo going on last night because I was sure the gnome episode was a Family Guy thing for a good five minutes. I could remember Peter doing a little dance with the jockeys and everything.

The episode that broke me for Futurama was the Close Encounters parody. Any time they try to do mythology stuff after the first cancellation it's dire. I should have stopped with the Susan Boyle joke though because that's as bad as they come. The vegas stuff in the fourth movie was pretty good.

If we're talking about Simpson's I liked the 2 parter involving Mr Burns, rappers, and like a Great Gatsby thing. Futurama gets bad during the DVD movie/ Comedy Central seasons. Some good but mostly bad. The nature and anime episodes are TRASH.

Futurama had some gems in the later seasons. "The Late Philip J Fry" was an obvious standout, but even in the last season, the series finale was good, as was the parody of The Thing and the one where they become firemen.

I gave up on Disenchantment after the first couple episodes, but then came back and finished it about a month or two later. It does improve, but I'm not sure that it was worth it. A couple of the episodes had me laughing a lot, but I can't remember why now.

"The Saga of Carl" (your millage may vary on this one depending on how much you like Iceland jokes), "Seemingly never ending story" (your millage may vary on this one depending on how much you like meta humor), and I guess for a third one "The Fool Monty" because it has like two good scenes and I just enjoy watching Mr. Burns do stuff. Also, "Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind" is kind of interesting.

Teen Angel isn't even the worst post-Sabrina magical sitcom. The genie show, You Wish, was all about the genie trying to trick the family into using up their 3 wishes so he could leave. It had an episode where an old genie was sundowning and wanted the genie + family to euthanize him by firing his body into the atmosphere so he would burn up and become a shooting star.
