Could be something more outright comforting given what the pursuit of magic ended up doing to her, if she had a happy family life then her family home for instance. I really liked the suit callback with Fogg, was nice to see that rad custom order do crazy magic BS. Fun to see more varied uses of magic in this episode too, we got the now standard instant slices, telekinesis, and blasts of force, but also a tiny fireball, instant teleport, and people turned into puppies. Good stuff all around, and I'm totally on board to see a proper magic free for all next episode. We haven't seen Alice doing full-bore battle magic in quite awhile, I'm keen to see her bust out crazy light-based attacks while hopped up on extra magic.

Well gently caress. I'm still pretty sure there's going to be a flip once Eliot's actually back and it's going to resolve the Q/Alice story, but given how clearly on-point the writing has been this season--even if it makes sense for Quentin to kind of question everything at the moment--was a huge misstep and it sucks. I was so sure that speech to the plant was going to end with Q admitting the only thing he's loved about Fillory is the time he got to spend with Eliot that I kept waiting for it, and hoo boy did that not happen. I like what they've done with Q, I like what he's said about growing up, but bruh. ETA: I guess Arjun Gupta tweeted the other day that he doesn't know (I don't buy that), but that it isn't the end of the road for Quentin and Eliot, and that the writers are aware of what that relationship might mean for the characters and in a broader storytelling context. One thing I realized after watching the episode is just how invested in that I managed to get right after the Eliot episode this season, and how it's just managed to build up since then? I didn't expect it, and I'm positive it's just how incredible that duo of episodes were, but there was something about seeing something completely new on TV that I didn't expect but felt totally natural was gratifying even if it didn't immediately apply to my context. Either way, watch them kill Q or Eliot and reveal it was one of them getting off the elevator. He blew his chance at happiness with Q there so it's not too surprising that it might not pan out for the two of them. That said, Q's explanation for why he forgave Alice felt weird to me. Forgiving her by putting himself in her shoes and understanding that she thought she was doing the right thing I could buy, but his reasoning is basically "you suck but I should have expected it". Her actions betrayed them but they did come from good intentions, I'm not sure never trusting anyone ever is the right thing to take away here.
