Gumshoe isn't even the first light gun game where you escort a character. Crossbow in 1983 had players protecting adventurers who slowly walked across the screen.

Thank you for catching that - hadn't even considered Crossbow, though I've played an actual cabinet of it.

Trying to think of earlier games with escort missions and it's tough though I'm sure something exists. Infocom would be an obvious place to look but I can only think of characters that follow you (loving Floyd) and nothing I'd really call the player escorting the character.

Just got my GB Everdrive in and how do people get roms these days? Seems like every website I find says that the files aren't available, and while I have a retrode I don't have the Gameboy adapter for it.

There’s still quite a lot of Mania over Roms being hard to find these days which is nothing, really compared to the Romance of the CD days of yore.

I mean the thing is. You can straight up type "GoodN64" or "no intro roms" or whatever other set of rom names you want into Google and get those whole packs from multiple different sources like files straight up on hosting sites like Mega to torrents to usually also archive.org

About the only thing that really seems harder is to get specific just one game downloads, but also aren't at all well known because all the big names are very easy to find as single roms. As mentioned tho, you just roll up a whole pack which is way less of a burden on your download time or local storage than it used to be.

Nah. It's a very basic versus Tetris with limited powerups/actions you can do to your opponent. The only one I remember is to send a large over size piece to your opponent but if they make enough lines to counter it before it arrives it gets sent back to you and you must counter. This can go back and forth for a bit until some one is stuck having to place something like a 9x9 block piece. But such a large piece opens up a huge chance for a tetris for the person with it because it's one line shorter than the play field. I remember thinking this mechanic was rather stupid, I didn't like it nor does it seem fair for either player. I don't think any other version does this particular thing and for good reason.

Also I played some Tetris DX last night and holy poo poo is the game that stingy with pole blocks or was my RNG that bad? A couple of games and maybe one appeared. Maybe this one isn't as good as I thought.

THE HELL IS WITH THIS ASS!?

Just finished Dragon Quest 6 tonight and I'm all Dragon Quest-ed out for a while. I wouldn't say it was a disappointment, but it feels like a downgrade from 5. Might have liked it more if I'd had more time to play it. I only really get one night a week to play games now and the whole.swotching back and forth between worlds gimmick makes it hard to keep track of where you are unless you're playing continuously.

I guess I'll have to pick up DQ 7 again at some point, though that's not likely to be soon. I got pretty far into it several years ago and then put it down. Going to have to start over from scratch or just muddle through from where I left off. Neither option sounds all that appealing though

Tetris DX can be faked out by dancing with the pole a bit on the way down into making the system less reluctant to be stingy because you don’t act like you always have a home for it when you KNOW you do.

I went through a lot of trouble to get a modable fat ps3 with full ps2 bc and I'd love to do anything I can to make it last forever. I replaced the thermal paste and I set the fan to max but it's concerning how hot the PSU inside gets. It actually gets hot enough that it will burn you.

Without a doubt Tetris The Absolute The Grand Master 2 was the best. It had a co-op mode called Doubles. You and your friend shared a single slightly larger board. Both of you had separate pieces. Those pieces will at times move faster or slower depending on how many lines you've completed. Find a friend play the ROM!

Was this the version that if you keep rotating a piece the game will think you don't know what to do with it and give you more of them? And you can break it to the point where it will only give you that one piece?

It looks like the Everdrive also uses a button cell battery but it's replaceable? What's the deal with the ezflash omega in this regard, or I guess in any regard compared to the Everdrive since it's significantly cheaper?

I think the omega ises the same battery set up as a regular cartridge. Also, the alternate front so it fits flush in a lite riles.

I will say I've had to mess with my SD card twice already in about two weeks of having my ezflash omega. It has an issue with corrupting the saves and requires you to either reformat or repair the SD on a computer which sucks for a handheld. I've been waiting five+ seconds after each save too.

I have that old rear end ez flash iv and I still swear by it. The only negative is you need to use their software to put the games on the sd card but it's not a bit deal doing that once.

Oh :(

So I paid $60 for a product effectively inferior to my previous EZFlash 4? :saddowns:

Do I need to open it (the EZ4) up and replace a battery and return the Omega?

e: the phrasing about waiting until after exiting, as well as disabling the Fire Emblem ingame resume thing, makes me think it only writes once, after exiting the game? Would that still reduce the life?

I finally cracked open my PS3 and got after the dirt of which there was a decent amount. Didn't look like enough to heat the console up so much but I cleaned and scrubbed everything I could anyways. After 4ish hours of Project Diva F the console was of course warm but not near the "is this going to burn down my house" level it was at before. Even the disc was only slightly warm instead of red hot. A net win, except for the fact that the only Hatsune Miku worth playing is apparently the 3DS one. I got sort of used to the gameplay in Project Diva but it's nowhere near as fun as the 3DS game and the songs are pretty forgettable too. Let's just say that if this game just up and vanished from my collection, I wouldn't be very heart broken about it.

the future
I've been having some issues with my DSi XL recently.
I have a Supercard DSTwo and it's been occasionally freezing when opening the system after sleep. Sometimes the cart doesn't detect on the main menu, and I need to reinsert it a bunch of times before it will take.
Even then, sometimes it will detect but then I'll get just the white screens instead of loading the Supercard's system.
I cleaned the contacts on my Supercard but it's still acting up occasionally. Other times it works fine.
Should I just order a replacement? I don't use the GBA emulation on it anymore so maybe one of those R4i Gold cards would be fine. I can't get them too easily since I live in Japan and the GS got pretty strict with flashcarts a while ago. I have friends visiting from Canada this year that could bring one over for me though.
I'm also curious if it's my DSi itself. Amazon Japan still sells new ones for non ridiculous prices and the collector in me is pretty tempted to just order one for the heck of it.
Thoughts or anecdotes?

Mine does the cart not detect thing when I shut it off from an app and not the home screen or a game. I usually just take it out, put it back in and turn it on problem solved. I think it's some kind of memory that didn't get cleared, so letting it lose power flushes the system. IDK, but mine is otherwise fine after years of use.

I'm also kind of done with Game Sack after the anti-trans stuff too but if I'm being honest, Joe already carried the show. Dave's opinions and insight on the stuff they discuss always felt extremely shallow; Joe actually seems to know what he's talking about.

Curious to see what comes of this but I kind of feel like Game Sack's time has passed and Joe could move on to bigger things.

You shouldn’t use sleep mode with DS flashcarts but especially the DS TWO with its own processor, which will be running at full power while the system is in sleep mode. Normally this wouldn’t cause any problems other than a drained battery but sometimes there’s weird errors; a real DS cart does not need power but a flashcart does, no one ever figured out how to make them compatible with sleep mode. If you have to put your DS down for any length of time save and turn it off.
