WHO as in the World Health Organisation? Not sure what they did to piss off the tin foil hat crowd, but sounds like they’re doing good work.

The nutters who love Bitcoin and think it is the future are also the same nutters who watched all the Zeitgeist movies on YouTube and said "mmmm yes this is good and accurate information"

Tech Bros gotta Tech Bro. I have talked to a developer that does work on the EFPOST retail payment system. He was into Block Chain and algorithms to solve everything. Naturally I asked him about the inherent intractable issues and use cases of which he couldn't come up with one.

People who think Bitcoin has a use besides burning electricity, and idiots who are excited by the "new paradigm" of having all their money stolen by Eastern European cyber criminals suck rear end too, so the questions are a good fit for this poll.

Dewgy posted:Three of the five options assume it’s useful and are positive, one is playfully dismissive, and the last one is a milquetoast negative statement. Seriously wtf are those options? 'Useful for immutable record keeping outside of currency'. Like, what? 'Useful' just wasn't enough, you had to purposefully pollute this with all this poo poo? 'Irresponsible use of resources'. The concept of the blockchain tech itself doesn't use resources, the whole idea is absurd. Implementations use resources. There are so many things conflated in there I kind can't even And the rest of the questions at a glance seem fine for a web poll, it really seems that thinking about cryptocurrency rots peoples' brains.

It is never a bad time to buy bitcoin. It only becomes a bad time to have bought bitcoin when you sell the bitcoin and collapse the wave function.

Tim Draper made a fortune in the "old" economy investing in things like Hotmail and Skype, currently lives in a post-money existence (i.e. he has so much it has no real meaning) and not only enthusiastically backed Theranos when his own VC (he's the D in DFJ) passed on it but remains their biggest defender. What I'm saying is yeah, this tracks.

LethalGeek posted:When all you how to do is hammer you think everything is a nail. Wow devs are some thick idiots. There's a similarly large faith in cryptocurrency among professional poker players (who are also generally thick idiots besides being very good at one specialized form of math) I don't think it's a coincidence that both fields are much more meritocratic than average (well maybe not the right word, but what I mean is you can train and learn on your own and there is actually a correlation between working hard and moving up the ladder so to speak, even though it's still possible for undeserving idiots to be successful in both fields) There's some psychological thing where people are successful in one field, think it's because of their brain, ergo they have a galaxy brain, ergo their galaxy brain will bring them success in everything else, ergo bitcoin will propel them into the global elite while the smallbrained rest of the world toils in salt mines.
