Haha, like half the reason I didn't make a video was cause I'm happy with my avatar

a good chunk of the rest is that I just would have captured running my song through Winamp with Milkdrop on

I always have to remind myself of the context for your avatar, and it never helps. That's why it's great.

I’m completely in love with this Volca Drum. I’ve been playing with it all night. I feel like an idiot jumping into my first drum machine but I’m finally figuring out the workflow and how to sequence etc. it’s addicting! Now I just need to figure out how to get better at sound design. I’ve edited some of the presets but I have no clue what I’m doing really. That’s the fun of it thought really. Uncharted sonic lands and such.

Thanks for talking about it itt and saving me $150 compared to the Drumbrute I was looking at :)

Well drat thanks for all the kind words. Those two cassettes were just me messing with making j-cards. They don't even have labels and are just recorded on Maxell UR 90s.

The next step is to check into buying some colored cassettes and figuring out how to print labels, or print on the cassette. I plan on doing that eventually just for practice, but I will also look into making a tiny run of them for the thread if enough people are interested. Maybe like 15 - 20 of each?

dunno about anyone else but I can get a boner multiple times a day :ohdear:

but srsly though, one of my youtube channel ideas is for a band that wrote, rehearsed, and then performed a new song live in a new video on youtube every week, but finding a couple other folx willin to commit to 2-4 practice and performance sessions a week while they still work day jobs just to get the idea off the ground and build an audience is just terrible

SeamlessR has a metric fuckton of tutorials.

Here is the part I don’t get though - boatloads of 15-year olds figure out FL Studio in a very short time. It’s what generates all these dubstep and EDM starlets. I always figured that this was something kids would pick up naturally. Youtube is positively flooded eith FL Studio tutorials.

FL and me are not good friends. I won’t talk poo poo about it (some people who have been using Serious Real Man’s DAWs for decades are very salty about FL and call it a toy). It has a very respectable feature set, but it’s pretty much incomprehensible to me.

Also the included plugins could really use a graphic overhaul.

In high school I somehow made a song featuring a sample of my friend saying "I want someone to have anal sex with me" using Fruity Loops. I somehow managed to chop up the sample and do all sorts of stuff. I don't know how I did it and if I were to open Fruity Loops now I would be lost.

What I'm saying is that I peaked in high school.

FL isn't much different than any other DAW. It's my main DAW, but I also have Ableton and Reason. You know one, you know them all. It's mostly about workflow. Not sure about the graphical overhaul of the plugins, maybe they used to be bad looking.

The only exception I've found is Renoise. It's a technically a tracker, but has all the modern DAW furnishings.

Here is a more recent tutorial. This guy has piles of them, and generally who I started with.

I've only been using FLStudio for a couple years, yet I don't remember learning it.

I remember watching "what's new" videos before I started with it, I remember learning Reaper and Ableton Lite.

It's just weird is all I'm saying.

When I got my first laptop, a 2007 MacBook, in the summer between high school and college, I made an entire album of joke tracks for my friends in GarageBand. Took me all of 72 hours and I’d never really used it before or since.

I find joke projects hard because they hit the same decision paralysis as serious ones for me, or they become a time rabbit hole I feel bad abandoning. Exceptions were things I knocked out in an afternoon.

Synthgoons this article and the attached links have me all inspired to make poo poo. Like what about a solar powered “sunchime” that makes drones or plays samples or runs a tiny generative softsynth or whatever? Maybe you program/tune it to certain scales and then pop it in your yard or in your window and listen to it make bleeps.

Or maybe something like an album/jam hosted online that only becomes available/functional when the sun’s out...
