Decided I couldn't wait for Fish & Chips so I got Ultra Sun, very good. Anyway I'm now reading all kinds of nonsense on Smogon and stuff despite my strongest so far being Level 11.  Also yes I try to use new mons when I got into a new gen, and Sigilyph, because he's my incomprehensible boy.

Like the only time Blue ever battles you at the end of an area is, like, Silph Co and S.S Anne, but most of those areas are optional and have convenient healing points nearby, so it's debatable.

I started playing Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. First time I played a Pokemon since Pokemon Blue back in the day. Why did they bother including three starters in this one? It's not like anybody would choose Torchic or the green one

When we got my husband's little brother addicted to Pokemon at the tender age of 8, one of the first Pokemon I traded to him was a Sigilyph because it's cool. The first trailer already showed a couple of old monsters like Minccino, Wishiwashi, Flygon, Lucario and Tyranitar, so it's unlikely the case this time EDIT: In the Gen 6 and Gen 7 trailers, old Pokémon that were featured in them ended up being in that region's Pokedex. I personally like all of them but I can see why people are put off by the likes of Emboar, Delphox and Incineroar.

At the point I'm up to in the anime, May still has a Torchic, but the opening reveals that it's going to become a Combusken, and I can't help but wonder what on Earth she's thinking; isn't she trying to win Pokemon beauty contests? I guess she's evolving it so it can fight better and letting Skitty and Beautifly handle the contests?

Mankey/Primeape Aipom/Ambipom Chimchar/Monferno/Infernape Pansage/Simisage Panpour/Simipour Pansear/Simisear Darmanitan Oranguru Passimian And now Grookey and presumably its evolutions. Most of them are fine individually (even the much-maligned Gen V Pan/Simi lines would be inoffensive if there wasn't three of them), but the sheer number of them makes them feel lazy.

Blaziken was/is awesome, though Combuskin is the worst looking 2nd form. Swampert is a house, but tweenage me wouldn't give the water type a chance. Painfully nerdy teenage me learned the error of those ways.

It's the only type triangle that is resistances one way, weaknesses the other way, and every type resists itself. In your example, ice doesn't resist ground, and ground is neutral to itself. Some others come close but fail one of those by having an immunity or some such.

My one real complaint with the current Pokemon lineup is that there isn't a third level of Eevee evolutions for every possible dual type. You should be able to use a fire stone on a Jolteon or a thunder stone on a Flareon and evolve it into a fire/lightning type, for example

Blaziken is based off of a shamo chicken, and I don't think it keeps enough of that aesthetic. It's got a streamlined, clean, artificial look, and though I don't dislike it, it could be way more interesting if it stayed closer to its inspiration. Just look at the fierce dinosaur eyes, strong taloned legs, and shaggy plumage. It looks more battle-ready than Blaziken.
