Ten minute 'First Look at Green Mars' video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl71mYFrTug Some things I noticed: New Terraforming mission sponsor. Terraforming techs are a new line on the now vertically orientated tech tree. Terraforming related remote missons available on the planetary map. Terrain manipulation is a job handed to drones. Removing hills will generate waste rock. Drag-select a mass of drones is now available. 'Martian' style disasters like dust storms and cold waves will abate as Mars is terraformed, but issues like flash flooding and marsquakes can happen. Welp, failed the mystery. Didn't know that was possible. Is there any point to continuing this save or should I just start over?

You can still get your sponsor goals I guess. The game is pretty sandboxy so stick with it if you like your colony or start a new one if not.

Beyond earth. Also failed a sponsor goal early on so rip me.

Beyond Earth is one of the harder ones because of how resource intensive it is. Though if you can get them some of the bonuses are nice. Extra fusion reactor output and Ganymede Rice are tasty.

Even the easy mysteries make you do something--anything--in response to an initiating event of some sort but Beyond Earth is just "hey which bonuses would you like to have paid for by sol 150 or whatever?" I was very quietly skeptical about the new DLC but that quick look seems to be exactly what I want out of it: a cool looking thing to use your 8000 concrete and 6 rockets on.

Metals one, Polymer one, one other since those are the two easiest resources to get up and running before Rede Goddenberry kicks the bucket. That being said, as much as I like the writing for that one it's very much the dullest and most frustrating mystery and if I roll Random and get it I basically re-roll because I've done it a few times. It's also one of the most crippling ones early on.

Game 3 is going much better, up to 150 colonists before sol 40. Planning a separate unconnected dome complex for the first time is tough, though so far I've managed to avoid any crucial resource bottlenecks. I get the feeling I'm really going to miss being able to buy more applicants in future games now that I know what I'm doing.

It's "free" if you got the season pass, which is honestly one of the better decisions I made way back when.

You sort of can by placing something and then turning it off, it won't get built until you turn it back on again.

I really wish you could attach tubes to the entrances of a dome, that way you don’t have to eat up precious space inside said dome.

The developers said that they considered it but they wanted tunnel attachments to have more decision weight behind it so that's why it takes a hex.

One of the only mods I have installed is the extra passage length one. Its not too game-breaking and if it wasn't for the "will only traverse one passage" AI I'd mitigate it with a micro/basic dome serving as a hub.

Yeah, I got the Season Pass when the game came out and it's been one of the best deals ever. The game just keeps getting better and better from the bare-bones shell it was at the start. I mean at this point I wouldn't mind tossing them some money, but I'm not exactly free I got in on a good deal.

You can build solar panels / stirling generators inside them to shield them from the elements, I think this prevents them from using maintenance but not 100% sure on that.

You can also use them to keep solar panels working during dust storms, but honestly I wouldn't build a dome just for that unless I finally get around to playing with the max dust storm game rule.

Back Hack posted:Sad bit about IRL Mar colonization effort is that Mars can't be terraformed, like ever. I wouldn't say never, just certainly not in our lifetime (which i suppose you can argue is basically the same thing). Everything we do today would have been considered impossible 4000 years ago. Imagine what we'll know in another 4000! Probably that nukes are real good at killing and that we've all made a terrible mistake, but eh

So I'm super sorry if this has been asked before, but once you select a Mystery are you only locked into that one for the whole game? Is there any way at all to trigger a new one after you complete one? I don't know if this question makes sense. I want to just do random ones for the surprise but my worry is that I'll get something boring or not good and that it will make me want to end my game after x number of hours. I like the game so far alot other than that, but if it's just a way to encourage replayability I'll get over it.

Well, also mysteries are supposed to be a challenge and that ties into you being at a certain level when you hit one. If you did one mystery after another the second one wouldn't be remotely challenging. You get one mystery per playthrough.
