They seem to be allergic to showing any action why the gently caress did they CUT AWAY from saitama punching the bird to death in king's apartment

Very cool particle effects as the character models slide in straight lines across the screen https://twitter.com/fansaitama/status/1118448643827060736?s=21

The bigger problems are just the bizarre editing and weird pacing in general. I mean, OPM has always had weird pacing, but I straight up have no idea what saitama even did to sonic at the end there, or in most of fubuki's scenes. The weightlessness and no sense of scale or space on top of the cut corners is textbook lovely anime action direction. I'm gonna drop this one. It's just too sad.

just gonna repeat that I legitimately think the framerate on Murata's manga is higher than the anime, like yeah maybe that's just my imagination filling in the blanks between panels but some of the shots in these two episodes have just lingered forever on static or nearly static images, and it seems like even a careful reading of the comic would make the scene transpire quicker.

people said the framerate was higher in the murata version for the first season too lol

The anime needs to crop out murata frames that are hard to animate. Hand motions, long hair, etc.

How long until someone outright takes just the audio and puts Murata panels to it?

Anyone else find Tatsumaki rather lame? Compared to other heroes who are either goofy, parodic, creative or subversive, she just comes off as a bog standard insipid rear end in a top hat anime girl who smacks people when she's angry so we guffaw. There's nothing about her that sets her apart from any other anime girls who fall into the exact same cliche character setup. She's "unique" from the rest of the cast in that she feels like she's from a different, far less interesting story.

Yeah but Saitama basically gets away with everything because bucking Shonen hero conventions is what makes him hilarious. You still get Genos being whacked around and her being a smug bitch to everyone else she sees and it's just boring because nothing is really done with her.

Even if ONE wrote a justification for her, it's still a justification to have a stock character type that I dislike. She's still an rear end in a top hat and I find her dull and routine.

Intentionally making someone a bitchy tsundere character to make fun of bitchy tsundere characters still leaves you with a bitchy tsundere character. It's like how Borderlands 2 reacted to people disliking Claptrap in BL1 by doubling down and making him a goddamn moron who is even more insufferable. I dunno, I don't see the appeal unless the intent is to make a character I'm supposed to dislike. I don't really hate her but I am so done to death with those kind of characters. When she's being played straight she's boring but when she's bouncing off of other characters (being ignored, arguing, ect) or it's dealing with her relationship with her sister then I like her. So I usually like her.

Tatsumaki is terrible and awful but this is precisely why she is good and cool. She is also pretty interesting once we get to learn about her. But Murata won’t get to that for like another 5 years.

Lord_Magmar posted:See, I actually really like the feeling of speed and instant hits this scene gives? It's bad animation but something like this with better animation would be super cool. It's better animated here. Also, this animation is fuckin' lazy as hell. Specifically, the ending of the Sonic fight in this episode - Saitama does his side hops on a mostly static frame, Sonic reacts with a still image, there's a cloud of dust, and then Sonic stays completely stationary while sliding along the ground and kicking up a big dust cloud. Here's what happened in Murata's version - Saitama does his side hops on a double page spread, next page is a double page spread zoomed out showing many more Saitama afterimages, Sonic reacts, there's a panel showing Saitama's afterimages barreling through and obliterating Sonic's after images, and then a panel of the actual Sonic sliding along the ground without the comically large dust cloud obscuring what's happening. They'd have been better off making a motion comic like Marvel did for a while there a few years ago.

I think you're underestimating the amount of work it would take to use Murata's art and turn that into a motion comic. That involves more than just taking panels and putting audio and sound effects over it.

I mean. Unless you're redrawing every panel, that's literally what you're doing, along with shaking it around.

Billzasilver posted:Very cool particle effects as the character models slide in straight lines across the screen There's less animation in this than in some League of Legends Splash Screens. There are three drawings for the characters in a 4 seconds combat animation. And yeah, it is pretty much better animated in the manga version. There's a lot of hatching to convey movement there, just like in S1 even though S1 was animated fluidly as hell. These character models on the other hand are drawn flat. This is downright embarrassing. If this is the highlight of the episode I can't even imagine what the rest is like. At this point I'm imagining there are more frames of animation in the slow-motion of Genos kick vs Saitama than in the rest of that entire combat. So I know this is an old-ish debate on the Sweet Mask fight but I was re-reading the manga since I'm bedridden with a horrible fever and bored and I just got through a part I had completely forgotten which is when Fubuki fights the Whip lady. Her whip fails on Fubuki, which she attributes to Fubuki's "strong ego". So yeah it just seems like a simple case of people who are too narcissistic or have a strong willpower are immune to it, and Sweet Mask was confident enough to fit all criteria.
