Having a bit of ennui, and bummed that Ashbury Heights is split again ... can anyone think of upcoming albums to look forward to? The early Covenant stuff hasn't been promising for me. I lovvvved The Blinding Dark.

There's an EP from Priest coming out in a few days, which will also be the last release with the original vocalist because he and another member quit this month. :(

The best version of California Uber Alles is a cover so maybe he will continue in that grand tradition!

Sorry it's The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, you can choose either the album version or the Virus 100 version but those are the only correct answers.

FWIW there's new Method Man and TR/ST on the horizon (with singles out). There's a new Rotersand remix EP out. Industrial-adjacent (Mute Records), MAPS has a new album coming soon which may interest some here.

Been waiting for that TR/ST for far too long. Not enthused by the singles thus far, but his stuff has a tendency to grow on me.

Regarding Ashbury Heights I wouldn’t worry about the “split”. Ashbury Heights just seems to be Anders Hagström and whatever singer can stand to work with him for the moment. Dude seems like the biggest drama queen.

Back in 2017 I saw Haujobb do a show in Brooklyn. The venue got changed last minute so maybe 30 people showed. Daniel ended up being in quite a hilarious mood and bantered with the crowd the whole show. It took until about halfway through that I started filming in between songs (so I didn't get him talking about starting out as a Skinny Puppy rip off) but I remembered I never uploaded the clips I had. So here's a couple 18 month old clips of a Haujobb show no one went to!

He played two shows in Austin in like one year as DSTR / Destroid for God knows what reason (I think he might've had a girlfriend in town or something; Hell if I know) and it was like that. Anyways I just got stoned as gently caress and watched D Myer rock out with his hog out for like 20 people.

Same. This thread and the occasional good algorithm have introduced me to so many good bands, and also made me angry about everyone liking Blutengel.

Also because I am so disconnected from the scene, I somehow never heard of Odonis Odonis until the aforementioned good algorithm introduced me. This is that good droney beat that makes me want to buy a dozen pairs of pleather boots.

I saw HEALTH and Youth Code tonight! Steel Panther was playing across the street and had a line around the block, while I had no problem walking immediately in, buying a shirt and beer, and getting close to the stage. The place filled up halfway into Youth Code's set, but I was worried for a minute.

Also the singer tried to twirl her mic by the cord, but it detached and hit a girl in the face. To her credit, she felt awful and immediately tended to her, but man... A lot of things went wrong with Youth Code's set that was entirely beyond their control. HEALTH was also there and performed to the best of their abilities.

On the bus home from this right now as well. Sara beaning the girl with the mic was pretty funny, and it was great having her amongst the crowd screaming in my face. But yeah their set was a poo poo show, in a sometimes endearing way. Sara going up on the balcony was a bit weird.

HEALTH's set was rad as hell and bordered on sensory overload. My only complaint is that it felt like it was over just as it got going. But I guess the set just goes that fast when the music is going that fast.

I managed to snag a set list, I'll upload it when I get home. Nice mix of Black Magic and Slaves of Fear. Honestly I was expecting more Slaves of Fear.

The energy on the stage eclipsed the energy of the crowd quite a bit.

That rules! The pushup and a half reminds me of that story of Kompressor getting winded after two songs and performing the rest of the show (which was already just him yelling over a boom box) while seated.

Maybe I was expecting too much, but it's pretty disappointing that the new TR/ST album is 8 tracks, where 5 of them are previously released singles. The previous album (Joyland) came out in 2014; he's had plenty of time.

The songs are pretty uninspired too. Most of the tracks, such as the opener Colossal, are pale imitations of the stuff he was doing on the first album, a few, like Control Me, go for the lighter, more poppy feel of Joyland, but lack the energy. Poorly Coward is the only track that actually goes in a new direction, using some industrial sounding percussion, and some synth experimentation.

It's good and all, but every version of this song I hear I just think is not quite as good as the original. On the plus side, it has reminded me that Un:Gott came out several months ago and I still need to check it out.

I remember the Real Life original coming out, and it was only quite so good either. Basically filled the gap while we were waiting for the Human League to do another good single. Then Real Life did a second single that was the same tune but worse.
