Yeah I kinda like it, I always reasoned it as her looking at the person next to her at the console going all "Can you believe this poo poo? " but the whole thing was just such a heartfelt celebration of Doctor Who it also weirdly works as a fourth wall break in the same way the First Doctor wishing us all a Merry Christmas at home worked

gently caress The Forge, gently caress Nimrod, gently caress that whole lovely dumb storyline forever. Literally the only good thing to come out of it that I've heard so far is the story where the 7th Doctor returns to deal with them and just effortlessly clowns on them like the idiots they are.

Wow, reading the wiki River Song is almost a straight-up transplant of this character. Moffat basically worships Paul Cornell lol

She was the first new companion created for the New Adventure line, at a time when it was assumed to be the only continuation we were ever going to have of the series. She was pretty 3 dimensional, with a past and flaws and stuff. As time went on, she drifted towards the twee and insufferable a la River. Like she was SO COOL and SO FUN and SO HYPERCOMPETENT and all this epic poo poo happened to her. She really was River before River. She was also a contrast to Ace, who went away for a few books and came back all dark and brooding from the Dalek Wars. Bennie just wanted to get drunk and have fun and explore and poo poo. Her flaws made her a very new character, because usually companions are noble and cool, or have some excuse for being flawed (like Turlough). She could really gently caress up and make bad life choices. I have mixed feelings about Benny. I liked her in the books and they were all the DW we had at the time. I never was interested in buying any of her standalone books once Virgin lost the license. I like it when they have her in DW audios (same with Chris and Roz) but I don't have much drive to get any of her own stories. I can see why people might dislike her, especially if they don't like River. I will be the first in line to buy the inevitable River meets Benny story though.
