It’s the only thing that works given that the show ends in 4 episodes. I’d rather get something plain and boring that makes sense given the constraints than suddenly trying to squeeze in a whole bunch of complicated Night King backstory and motivation.

Final episode is a cinema verite docudrama detailing the Night King's childhood in the slums of Eastern Europe living under the Soviet Bloc trying to make enough money to help his older sister get an abortion.

5 Emmys.

It's actually Sansa and Dany who are going to get gay-married at the end of the series, just getting it on the books now so my genius is proven in a month

Does HBO still have the rights for a new Angels in America show but this time a Night King themed crossover?

What the backstory with the Night King? Weapon made by the elf things that they lost control over?

I thought there was some aspect of dueling gods on this thing but that never seemed to get fleshed out.

The Night King's motivation was always death and destruction. The whole point of the books is, "But if you look beyond your game of thrones, you’ll see the real enemy.”

my current favorite theory is that they take massive losses but eventually manage to take out the Night King, but then Dany walks out on the alliance and there's a dragon battle between her and Jon over the skies of King's Landing to decide who sits the throne

It’s a song of Ice and Fire, not a song of complicated anti-hero backstory nonsense. It’s a fantasy book largely inspired by a Tad Williams story involving ghouls.

It's fanservice I know but it's so cheesy that all these named characters are just instinctively drawn to each other for intimate moments; I was half expecting some winterfell guardsman or dothraki nobody to wander in like "ah yes, this war of the five Kings has been raging for quite some time, why I rememberer.." and all the beautiful people kick him out because he doesn't have billing

I really liked that Brienne is dubbed a "knight of the seven kingdoms", which is the title of the novella series featuring her all-but-confirmed ancestor

This episode built him up dying so hard. If he doesn't then I have no idea what the show even does with him. The writers clearly don't know how to write him smart any more, to the point where they realized they hosed up so bad they had to have several scenes this episode where characters go "Look Tyrion you've hosed up a ton but we know you're still SO SMART."

Nah, this episode telegraphed him making non bad advice/plans for the first time since Kings Landing.

The building was on fire and it wasn't my fault.
The night king does raise all the Starks down in the crypts, but because they're Starks they fight to protect Winterfel. This includes zombie Lyanna and headless-zombie Ned Stark. Headless-zombie Ned saves Jaime's life in some way that gives a winking reference to their brief interactions in season 1.

Daeny orders her dragons to attack Jon, but because Jon is the true Targ heir they refuse to.

Bran becomes the new Night King, orders all the zombies to walk into the ocean.

My favorite part was how Arya had to draw Gendry a picture of a spear but with the pointy bit on both ends. :downs:

Also Arya is now totally pregnant with Gendry's bastard spawn and will somehow end up getting Storm's End despite having the most dubious claim on it ever.

Bip Roberts posted:

Brianne should shag both of them in a 3 way then have the dudes die off to zombies and the show ends with a freezeframe of her winking to sansa.

The most disappointing bit was that there wasn't a threeway with Brienne, Jaime and Tormund.

Also she will mutter something about the Lord of Light and it will explain all the real magic he's been doing. THE END TO THAT PLOTLINE

I thought there was some aspect of dueling gods on this thing but that never seemed to get fleshed out.

In the books its clear that the mythical elements are all some great contest between The Lord of Light and some nameless god of darkness and ice. The other gods and mythical elements of the story all end up lining up with one side or another or are one of the gods is a different aspect, or is The Drowned God and is probably hella fake. Theres a lot more time spent on the prophecy of "The Prince who was promised" as well as other cultural variants of that prophecy in the book that just never happens in the show.

The Seven gods of the Kingdoms have a lot of rainbow motifs in their symbolism that never shows up in the show but is clearly implying that The Seven either are or are servants of The Lord of Light (light through a prism forms a rainbow). Which of course just makes the story even more about god of light v god of dark.

Of course absolutely none of this is in the show but nothing in the show directly contradicts this either so
