I can sort of see why the other worker, in the moment, might have thought it was OK and then apologized when confronted. It's the "hey, you brought it to the ring rear end in a top hat" defense that I think is even more infuriating.

you should ask if nothing else but to try and set up something interesting with it. stomping on the other guy's gimmick is not very interesting. no one cares even a quarter as much and it would only last one second. instead, "can i hit you with this mother fucker" or the other way around is way better and would damage it in a way where it could probably be pulled out doing what that 'worker' did is pretty similar to doing a dangerous spot that looks like poo poo in principal. it doesn't get anything over and just damages something instead
