Probably means Knossos. It's a city state built on the site of the Minoan capital, but there's no tangible connection between that state and the ancient Minoan civilization. The Greeks invaded Crete and sacked the city of Knossos around a thousand years before the start of Imperator.

ManyATrueNerd made some pre-release videos featuring Knossos and tried to claim that he was resurrecting the Minoan civilization but even he admitted it was a tenuous link at best.

I'm just sad when I asked for Manichaeism representation in the game that one of the developers schooled me by explaining that Mani wasn't born until 216 AD, a full 500 years after the start date of 304 BC.

I'm really interested, and aside from a developer update showing non-secret religions, how they'll handle pre-Islamic Arabian faiths. While it seems they'll "North Africa" it by just lumping all the tribal beliefs of the region into a generalized aggregate, pagan era Arabia is a very heated subject in that part of the world because if I'm correct the narrative as per Islam is that it was a time of heathen idolatry. I don't know much of if or what controversy there was to CK2, the game about the crusades, when it came out so I may just be overthinking it. The wiki lists Arabian as:

"Religion in Arabia was a polytheistic mixture of deities, aspects and demons, practiced in localities and enclaves around the region. Allah, the Creator-God, may have been worshipped as the head of the pantheon during this period, in some locations."

Man, an option to trigger iconoclastic unification of the faith by a single enclave would potentially be neat.

Really, its the dead faiths that I've never heard of or am familiar with that I'm excited to learn about in the game and maybe outside of it if interesting as the one true faith, Zun.

I'm pretty stoked on this. I loved CK2 and liked EU4, but the lack of characters through which to personify the emergent narratives ultimately lead to me going back to CK2. This looks like the ideal blend of both, in a dope time period. I'm all in, baby. Also the discussion earlier about pronouncing names compelled me to actually look that poo poo up, and found that I was mostly right in how I had been. I just blended hard C's and soft ones depending on the country or person inconsistently.

Well, that is a shame, and along with the population system not being what I expected dampers my hype a bit (I just really need a new game for the most part).

So I've not watched any LPs because I sort of want the game as it is to be a fresh thing experienced when I can fully engage it, but I'm not a little lost as to what exactly the game is as a mix of EU IV and CK2. The brief byline for the game was about managing population, which is in the first post as well, but I guess I took that as VIC 2 when it was more the development system of EU IV by for a demographic and production/resource manage system.

Is there any news on how the military in this game is for quality? All I've heard is about generals and loyalty, which is cool, but I've always ignored CK2 army composition because reunites of the culture bound unit is usually all I need. EU IV is a game where I still can't understand everything beyond supply width even after reading about it many times, I always pull up some Reddit post that tells you what to do for given width.

I'm hoping it's something interesting, and I honestly wonder how a division designer style like HOI4 would be. In a weird way, Romans being so specific about their army in surviving texts and the fact that the legion was basically equivalent in numbers to a modern brigade, it's sort of like the Romans strongly believed in only using vanilla unit templates.

It seems to be that there might be more importance in composition than CK2, but notably everyone's comps are going to be limited by trade resources they don't have. (Heavy Infrantry requires iron, for example) Aside from that, theres a sort of 6 or so pronged rock-paper-scissors tactics setting per army so that you can lean into your comp, or just try and counter what you think the enemy is choosing. It generally offers bonuses and maluses to units of particular types. Supply and all that other stuff is still there, to varying degrees of importance.

It looks more interesting than EU4 to me, for sure.

Correct. The tutorial apparently goes through many (but not all) of the basic game features, and then allows the player to continue their campaign at the end, similar to HoI4 iirc.

Owned by Phrygia at game start it seems like. Lesbos is that island shaped like a slot machine cherry off the coast of Turkey. I've been there, it's pretty nice, they've got a volcanically petrified forest and the worst road I've driven on (and map I had labelled it as "good quality").

If anyone's still on the fence, you can prepurchase on GMG for 25% off using SPQR25 code at checkout.

That makes the game 29.99$. I already preordered it for 35$ during the lunar year Steam sale, I'm kinda tempted to be a full-on cheapskate and refund it to save those extra 5$ ... it could buy me a flavor DLC or something :v:

I've been on the fence about whether I wanted to get this on launch, or wait for a couple of DLCs.

But in checking out this price and comparing it to the price on Steam, I realised that I, too, had preordered it during the steam sale, so I guess I will be playing it on launch after all.

You get a Steam key on release day. Only "issue" is that GMG is said to have a much stricter refund policy than Steam, it would look like that once they send you the key (and/or you activate it?) you can't apply for a refund anymore.

So if you're REALLY on the fence about the game as a whole, it could still be better to get it on Steam, try it out (play it less than 2 hours) and if you're not convinced get a refund.

If you know you'll enjoy it, it would appear GMG is the way to go, 30$ on day 1 (actually, -1) for a game that lasts hundreds of hours is a good deal imo.

It'd actually be Praesos, the last Cretean city state to speak Eteocretean. It's on the eastern half of the island, and was historically razed in 140BCE by Gortyn, taking with it the Eteocretean language.

As far as we know, Eteocretean may or may not have been the same language the Minoans spoke, or existed in the same language family somehow. It's neither Indo-European, nor Semitic, so some sort of connection to pre-Hellenistic Crete is inevitable.

However, in-game Praesos seems to be represented by "Cretean" culture, which is somewhat disappointing but understandable, unless the culture map has changed recently.
