Original sad brain tweet predicted two months. I don’t remember if the bet they made on air afterwards had the same time frame.

I’ve been thinking about their segment on Bernie’s Fox town hall, and while I agree that Bernie crushed the hell out of it, I think it was okay to be skeptical about his decision to go on. Left tube has been fighting a lot against the idea that we should debate white nationalists and defeat them with facts and logic. And even if Fox isn’t as overtly vile as Breitbart, it has more in common than not. Wanting to avoid legitimizing Fox News is more of a leftist concern than a centrist lib concern I think.

Then again, there’s a difference between having an open forum and getting in a shouting match with Tucker Carlson. And while they were right that CNN is bad and would try to kneecap Bernie too, I think I can be forgiven for assuming that Fox would be the one to assemble the more hostile crowd.

So I guess I’m not sure. What do you guys think?

Holding a Town Hall where you speak directly to the people who feel most disenfranchised by the Democrats is wildly different than debating white nationalists or doing whatever it is Michael Tracey does, especially when you are trying to ultimately win a general election. It was a savvy move that will benefit Bernie in the long run and did nothing to legitimize the network's terrible agenda.

as right as it is to recognize we're in hellworld and matt having generally the right attitude (unbridled rage) and is my fave chapo he allows his cynicism to override reality. didn't he think the dems weren't going to take the house in the midterms? it would've taken a polling error unheard of in history for that to be remotely possible. maybe he's one of the countless people that thinks the 2016 polling was wrong because trump won.

Matt's stances are the most inconsistent and are basically whatever he has to say to be the most pessimistic at that very moment. The other hosts constantly make fun on him for this, esp. Amber, and thus he really shouldn't be taken too literally most of the time.

i think my biggest matt letdown is i assumed his anti-video game stance was over the medium being in its infancy and seemingly unable to mature. then it turns out he thinks it's like the matrix and gamers can't tell the difference between reality and their vidyas.

The best one is his argument is they're too fun and thus gamers will not want to do anything else because it's really great to cut from that to him throwing the controller down and shouting "WHO COULD FIND THIS FUN!!??"

Matt doesn't like video games, and that's okay, but he's got some real brain demons so he's gotta conjure up some philosophical reason that he's morally right in not liking them and it'll always been a new and creative argument. And that stubborn pessimism in the face of reality is why he owns.

If he actually played video games he'd be able to make a much stronger argument against them. I remember specifically he said that all NPCs are just tools that the player used to accomplish their goal and had no emotional connection to them, which effected how gamer see reality.

But, like, one of the biggest games of the past couple years was Persona, the game about forming strong relationships in high school. Half the game play in Persona has the only reward of being better friends with the NPCs.

Which Matt could've used to strengthen his "games are better than reality" argument

Matt is quite the drama queen in some ways, isnt he. It's a little surprising because he's one of the ones who wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth and has suffered from legit hardship re: disability. you'd think that would have tempered him to adversity a bit more

I do a lot of tabletop role playing, and Matt's reaction wasn't too uncommon for people who are new to it and haven't really been handled correctly by the DM and to a lesser extent the other players. It's easy for new people to get frustrated when they feel like they built a "bad" character or that the adventure isn't giving them opportunities to do useful things. I wouldn't try to psychoanalyze the podcast man over getting upset at a game in a way a lot of people do.

Plus CoC is a game where you're supposed to be able to hurl your character into the literal or metaphorical maw of insanity and start over. Virgil does a lot to jury-rig the game in favour of keeping memorable audience-facing PCs around.
