Re: tram chat, most of Boston's trams are either cream and green (Kinki-Sharyo made Type 7 Light Rail Vehicles) or silver and green (AnsaldoBreda Type 8 and CAF Type 9 LRVs). There's also cream and red, but those are exclusively used on a separate line and are all refurbished PCCs.

Look at Transport Fever. The economic and signalling sim isn't as good, but the 3d track laying looks very pretty - your kid might enjoy it more than the older openTTD graphics.

I'm pretty stoked for Mashinky, which is a bit less hardcore than OTTD or Transport Fever, and lets you switch on the fly between an OTTD-style isometric view (good for building) and a TF-style 3d view (good for watching trains), but it's still in early access.

Well, a fan/foamer video, but UP 4014 (aka, bigboy) spotted with steam running in her again. I don't imagine it was at full pressure yet, but the burners were active and water running through her once more. Reportedly, they are on a raced schedule to have her restored and running for the anniversary event in a month or so from somewhere else I had read. Edit: I should add that I saw a video earlier from them rolling out the 4014 initially and I noticed there was a tender parked on the rail next to them with 4014 on it. The roof also appeared to have the paint all peeled up. So I'm starting to guess that while the engine itself was converted and runs on oil, the tender car seen right now is not the 4014's original tender car. Possibly borrowing the challenger's tender car since she was put out of commission for overhaul that was awaiting bigboy's finished restoration to get to. That would suggest the bigboy's tender hasn't been converted yet to oil tendering. I could be wrong and that 4014 in that case was something else entirely. UP confirmed a little while ago that they went ahead and put 3985's tender behind 4014 so that they could meet the deadline. 4014's tender will eventually be converted to oil, but it can wait a little bit since 3985 is down.

In the days of regular steam locomotive service, it was pretty common here in the US too, mostly on the larger railroads. If you have a whole fleet of locomotives that all use the same tender, it will make no operational difference if you swap tender A for tender B. I'm pretty certain that the Challengers and the Big Boys used the same type of Centipede tenders, so really, the only people who are crying are the ones saying "but that's not what it has when it was at the museum in California!", not realizing that, more than likely, that wasn't even the one it was built with.

I'm not sure they cared much about keeping the same type, either... Midland Railway #158A, originally #2 and later LMS 20002, built in 1866 and still in service in 1947 as a station pilot (Shunting/banking/etc). Currently restored and on display. Well, thanks for the education on the tender story. The 4014 tender appeared to be shorter, but whatever. Not that big a deal. Anyway, this will be my last posting of videos. Youtube is flooding on them and while I'm enjoying them, I'm gonna let our fellow goon who went out to chase them share he/her videos of it.
