Woahhhh, Party for One is already my summer jam.

Music is subjective and people have their reasons to like or hate poo poo, do we really need to pit female artist against each other? Hasn't that been played out enough yet?

I just want Gaga to reinvent herself again and release an album of bangers because I don’t really like any of the new girls minus Carly and Billie. (Unless you count Bey and Rihanna)

I don’t listen to Selena, Tay (though 1989 was fresh) , Demi, Katy, Ariana, etc.

Come on Gaga, gently caress me up.

I’m 30 and think Billie and Lizzo are both good. I just saw both live too and Lizzo was phenomenal. Went into it not knowing any songs and was just blown away by her voice and the crowd.

also the new Banks song is pretty poppy so I’ll post it here!

"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

this conversation is a bummer (different people have different tastes woooooow) so here's some of my favorite stuff from the first third of the year. I've been keeping up more with new music and I have a giant playlist full of pop, hip-hop, Pitchfork bait and other poo poo I like, so here's the pop stuff that you all should listen to:

Hip-Hop/R&B: (I'm not posting them in here because this post is already too long but there are a bunch of really great female rappers putting music out in 2019. Tierra Whack, Doja Cat, Noname, Cupcakke, Rico Nasty, Megan Thee Stallion, and City Girls are all worth looking at)

Sia, Diplo and a real good Lil Wayne verse to kick the whole thing off
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yv5_CXdv1lc

Ciara's newest, sounds very influenced by Janelle Monae and Bruno Mars and throwback sounds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVczk4uIPPg

Kehlani might be the most underrated singer in pop music right now
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjGj99eQIqQ

A pair of chill R&B songs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Y9VtoPvtuM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bOdq-dKfl0

really unique hip-hop that has very pop sensibilities
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ylso-BUcO6c

Guitars:

This song sounds like something Courtney Love could have released in the mid-1990s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZm1FpvJ4z4

I posted about Sir Babygirl a while ago but this song is another from that same album that owns
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWg4VGFtCns

Amazing guitar/power pop

Super retro-wave:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubLA2T2ZRW0

More great power pop
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uu1qtIk5eoY

This might be in the running for album of the year, it's the perfect poppy rock, funny and smart and really really catchy.

Radio-ready:

Lauv and Troye Sivan doing their thing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boUl0jPZMdg

Carlos Vara with a banger
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFoOYgQ87NY

Bebe Rexha sounding like Beach House for the first 15 seconds of this song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTNnwzXrVdg

Like Sam Smith, but if he had a sense of humor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVLWKrNSwdQ

I've loved just about everything G Flip has put out but this is the best

MNEK is incredibly talented
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P321QQV-jmw

Alice Ivy

Indie-adjacent:

dreamy, driving beat and a synth line that will live in your head
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s5DeSvltS0

Hatchie might have put out one of the best songs of the year, very dark synths, a lot of comparisons to Sky Ferreira's first album
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ELnVRJMFhw

awesome PC Music queer bubblegum pop
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tffGFXf6w9k

More positively, I saw Marina last night and it was my first ever live show (that wasn't a village band or something) so with no comparables at all I'm going to declare it amazing. She pulled out all my old favourites (lost it when she went into Savages) and Love + Fear definitely benefits hugely from the live atmosphere.

She had Glowie opening, who I'd never heard of but am looking into this morning and enjoying a bunch.

Sorry my love of the 80s hit and I was listening to Human League's "Don't You Want Me" and while also reading some top comments I saw this interesting one:

quote:

The 1980's Songs for Stalkers! "The Human League - Don't You Want Me", "Falco - Jeanny",
"The Police - Every Breath you Take" and "Sting - Wrapped around your finger",
" Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me", "Blondie - One Way or Another'", "Hall & Oats - Private Eyes"
Are there more?

I instantly thought of Animotion's Obsession.

Any others?

Also Debbie Harry still looks and sounds amazing. This is a few years old now but drat.
