My viewing distance isnt quite far enough to make that worthwhile either. Maybe in the living room!

Question - my whole life I've been routing my home theater inputs into a receiver, and an hdmi out to the TV. However I just bought a Samsung Q90, and it has an external input box and a universal smart remote and I'm wondering, should I be reversing my initial idea and instead on super smart tvs, insert all the inputs into the tv, and have a single ARC out to my receiver? Is this blasphemous? It seems to make sense but I want to ask before I go through with it all..

Samsung smart TVs in particular have really aggressive automatic device detection that really doesn't like it when the device connected to an HDMI port changes. I don't have hands-on experience with the Q90, but the Q6FN I have will try to figure out what device just got plugged in or swapped out if I change anything, and this also comes with a bonus factory reset on the picture options for that input. You will probably find that you have to fiddle with the fewest things possible if you connect as many things as you can directly to the TV. Be advised that the capabilities of what you hear and what you see will be determined by the least capable device in the chain - I don't think Samsung TVs are yet equipped to pass through DTS/Dolby Atmos or other high end audio streams via ARC or Optical audio, and if you have an older receiver, it may not pass through 4k video or HDR signals to the TV.

I just picked up one of these for $925 in Canada and its a hell of a TV for the price. Huge upgrade over the 49" inch Avera 4K TV with no HDR capabilities I previously had. Anyone else had any experience with the higher end Hisense models? The RTings review I read seems to mention this TV has some brightness issues but I haven't really noticed them yet but I am coming up from a really cheap 4K and saved around $250-$300 on this vs a TCL 6. https://www.visions.ca/catalogue/category/details.aspx?categoryId=0&productId=41999&sku=65H9908 Le Saboteur fucked around with this message at 19:42 on May 6, 2019 |

I had some questions about calibrating a TV out of the box so for mine I used the RTings calibration settings here as I believe this is the US version of my TV: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/hisense/h9e-plus/settings Now I've never calibrated a TV before just kind of messed with the settings until I got some semblance of what I thought was right. The result of RTings calibrations seems to have produced a much warmer image, but the colours don't seem quite as vibrant as they did out of the box. But they were possibly too vibrant straight out the box. Just wondering if this is kind of the effect you expect when going through a calibration? I think the image overall will be more pleasing to the eye over time, it just feels a bit weird right now as the calibration changed quite a bit.

Calibrate your tv to the rtings calibration and wait a week. Pay attention to things you notice about the picture but don’t overthink and try to adjust as little as possible. I 100% guarantee you that your perception of it will be much clearer and you won’t have that A/B comparison jumbled vision. The first few days while you’re messing with the calibration after seeing the stock settings aren’t going to tell you anything because our eyes and brains are weird and bullshit us. The rtings people are very good at what they do and I’m speaking as someone who has been very not into the idea of a “best” calibration like you can find around the internet. Agree with the above. Get the motion and color space settings right, brightness and contrast levels so your white and black points aren’t all over the place then never worry about it again. I was worried when I put a receiver back in my chain that running all my devices through one HDMI input would screw me as I couldn’t fine tune each thing and that was the dumbest thing that ever entered my brain.

AM Trucking delivered my C8. I got an automated phone call (and text) about two days before delivery asking me to confirm a delivery window (mine was 6-10pm on a Friday). The day of delivery, they called at the beginning of the window (again, automated). The driver called me a couple of times to give me an ETA. I got a few more automated update calls that evening. They ended up showing up pretty late, like 9:30, with the TV. Two guys that looked very sketchy but were polite. They pulled the screen out, powered it on to confirm it worked, and then boxed it up. I signed for it and they took off. I’m pretty sure they drove 2-3 hours (one way) to deliver just my TV. I live out in the middle of nowhere so if you’re in an urban area the service may be better.

It's probably one of the worse IR remotes I've ever used. It's not like the sensor is blocked. I can see it when sitting on my couch, but unless the remote has a direct line of sight it won't work.
