Lol Mazda I love you but diesel is dead. The fact that you've spent a massive amount developing diesels over the past ten years doesn't make them any less dead.

I'm a huge Mazda fanboy but between the CX-30 (why?), the disappointing diesel, and gambling on the future of bigger gasoline engines I'm not sure what they're doing. They've spent the last few years getting their cars really good. 90% certain ky next vehicle will be a CX-5.

I disagree. I think Mazda makes OK commuter cars that had a dramatic boost in their luxury characteristics after 2018. There’s no debate the new Mazda3 looks amazing even as a hatchback. There’s an Alfa Romeo vibe to them when the Brera, Giulietta and Mito were a thing. But that’s where the fun ends as far as I’m concerned. I had a 2.5 skyactiv and it sucked. It can’t compete with the 1.5T Honda engines.

I'm a little put off of mazda these days because of their push upmarket. I've owned more mazdas than any other brand (2 proteges, 3 miatas, and a mazda 6, growing up my Mom had a bp escort) and I miss the cheap honesty of the 323/protege/mazda3 of yesteryear. Seems like whole other companies have drifted over to fill that space. Like I feel that the forte would be a spiritual successor to the protege, since even the 3 was a big step up. What I'm saying is "I'd like tips for a cheap beater now that all the proteges have been ground to dust" E: I would use my 95 miata if I could find a shop in Houston that had working smog rollers. They're all broken and next year nobody will need them. So it's either ride dirty or not at all. BloodBag fucked around with this message at 18:09 on May 10, 2019 |

The push upmarket is the only way they live, though. Margins in the value segment won't support their modest sales volumes.

Yes, 2.5L engine that produces a whopping ~185 crank HP and feels anemic all across the rev range. And also doesn't really get great gas mileage. Good, but not great.

Modern turbo engines are so drat good and Mazda is missing out. If you're going to take the fuel economy hit, you may as well get that low-range torque.

My main concern with factory turbo engines is longevity. I don't think the honda turbo engines will be as tolerant of neglect as the old D16 series. But I guess time will tell on that one.

Glad to know someone else shares my feelings on it.

The Mazda 3 hatchback is beautiful period Shame we only get the 2l 120hp engine in Europe... but I read it's factory-limited and actually goes up to 160? Is that true?

You can get the 165hp version in the UK and yes the 120hp is the same engine up to like 4500rpm whereafter its electronically limited

So no extra 'oomph' at the low end, or something I'm reading a forum from some Mazda owners right now and they're debating hotly which parts of those cars are identical and which differ, and whether it'd be safe to run those engines at higher levels

Both engines are rated at identical torque figures. I test drove both before buying and couldn't tell any difference in normal driving. I bought the 120hp cuz it had cloth seats and was £110/year less road tax

Let's talk Supra! The Supra embargo has lifted, ton of vids on Youtube right now. Farah legit really likes it. 335hp/365ft/lbs - 3400 lbs, and it sounds like it feels like a slightly bigger FT86. That's enough power to get it to 60 in 4.1 seconds, which is no slouch, and sounds like the motor will take tuning well. Some of the reviews are probably lip service, but a number of these guys could tell the truth about it with no repercussions as reviewing Toyotas isn't something they do often. I'm realllly looking forward to comparisons to the Cayman. I want to see lap time comparisons since this might be less of a miss than I initially thought. They made it a track toy, which I don't hate and the 8 speed, though an auto, sounds like it's really good too. Also, legit having a crackle and pop tune from the factory... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2pLOc1K8mg&t=1115s Edit: I already made a lot of mad effort posts in this very thread before we have info, I am obsessed with this release, I understand that. sunaurus posted:I've heard a few comments about numb steering, has any reviewer gone in depth about that? Good news, reader! The lead engineer for the Supra said you can easily swap those out for aftermarket vents which will be functional! You can also tune up the engine to make more power (including with aftermarket turbos), and you can get aftermarket rearview mirrors and central screen to not have a fist-sized opening you can see out of the front-middle, and you can get an aftermarket trans to convert it to manual 6-speed! EDIT: So far every negative critique of the vehicle I've seen Toyota respond to was basically "well you can mod the car to make it the way you want it".

The roof looks like a convertible top that doesn't seal correctly and billows upwards from wind. Also: *YOU CAN MOD IT!* Can I have the factory spec model with all the mods as a kit since we're playing at real life RC cars now?

I wonder if the ones atop the wings are too... Usually when someone online mods a car it looks poo poo but the Mk5 is probably one of only very few cars to be improved by some random dickhead sat at his computer. I feel like the first company to come out with a bumper that makes it look like a mk4 is going to get paid.
