Lion's Forge is (was?) a company founded by two black people in St. Louis, and was way more diverse than Oni or probably any other US comics company. The combined offices are going to be in Portland, and there have been numerous layoffs/staff reductions announced, which are heavier on the LF side than the Oni side, which means the combined company is getting a lot whiter. The NYT piece runs everything confirmed down, though I haven't caught up with what everyone has been saying on Twitter today.

This poo poo confuses me. People rag on Facebook all loving day. "If you have FB you're a loser!" "Quit Facebook!" etc etc. But Twitter is where the loving Nazis live. Twitter should be the target. You're absolutely right and I've thought about this for a while. I quite Facebook a while back because of the creepy poo poo it pulls with your information but Twitter is terrible too. The problem (for me) is that just quitting Facebook already cut me off from a lot of people. I'm pretty introverted, so if I quit Twitter too I'd feel even more cut off from people. Maybe that's not a good excuse, but it's what's keeping me at least from pulling the plug.

at this point i would say they are both bad for different reasons. facebook because of massive privacy concerns and it is the primary vector to nazify your parents and grandparents with 0 critical thinking skills. twitter has a ton of nazis that target the younger cohort but also is where everybody moved after fb went down the shitter so it's harder to just not be on it at all, and also if you blockchain on a few main bad actors you can stop seeing the vast majority of the shitheads

As for social media it helps me keep in touch with friends and family all over the world so I am grateful for that (seriously try being an immigrant and stay in touch with people from your home country without it) but sadly like all things we just can't have nice things because people are jerks.

I want something like Mastodon to take off (and not just because I'm listening to Mastodon the band as I type this), just to kill those two companies. But I have no idea if it's any better, and also after quitting Facebook, I hardly see the reason to join another. I keep Twitter around to follow who I want to follow, and I never look at trending stuff, hashtags, etc. There is something also to say about how easy it is to embed a tweet, even this site embeds them.

FB is far from perfect or even good, but like, they did just recently get demonstrably more serious about banning a lot of high-profile far-right figures, so like, Rhyno is 100% correct, they are doing more than twitter in terms of getting rid of hate speech (even if they could be doing a lot more).
