Ok so I bought a ton of stuff.

Gonna read it all (eventually) and post my thoughts and pics in the empty livereading thread.

Early thoughts though:

The indigenous history zines were expensive, are not comics, and likely are the most impactful thing I bought.

The kayfabe anthology is a mixed bag as are all anthologies, but some of the stories are fantastic and I love that cover.

Silent invasion is an 80s renegade press book that is sick as hell. The interior line work is really really good. The cover actually lets it down.

And also James Stokoe’s new hardcover collection.

My friend got Chip Zdarksy to sign the first volume of his spider-man run today! He even did one of those little doodles where you draw Spider Man's head like a circle, complete with spider-sense/stink lines

Also, America being torn apart by paranoia fear? Pfft, talk about science fiction...

Not your fault, you basically just reminded me that I need a new mic so I can do that video essay ripping Millar to pieces

Like I've read comics that are objectively worse on some levels, but short of Fletcher Hanks' work I've never read something that makes it so clear that its author is just an absolute nasty piece of work, and even Fletcher Hanks has the decency to be interesting rather than just vile

The only good thing I can say about Mark Millar is that even though he gets off on offending people and is full of himself, he has yet to transition to "SJWs cant HANDLE how funny I am, Trump forever".

If I do a let's read of The Unfunnies would y'all be willing to piss on it with me (or, like, would that even be allowed at all, between :filez: and :nms: factor)

(I'm figuring :filez: is less of an issue than usual since it's out of print and Millar really doesn't like people knowing that he did it but... still)

I was gonna do a video on how much it sucks and is awful but I'm not sure if I can wait until I get a new mic to get this out of my system, and this might let me organize my thoughts a little better on the subject

Not very much, tbh. Works out, is tall, likes coffee, wants to travel, is both family and career oriented... I could make a better zine and have better bumble stories than the girl who made this. Ah well, it’s a gift for my brother who is deep in that tinder / bumble life.

Also, the Tony Stark's House of Ribs outtakes were pretty great.

i actually just watched those ultimates movies cuz i hate myself and yeah theyre just completely bland and uninspired. the only thing either of them had going for them was the subplot in ultimates 2 that cap started getting super depressed from the time displacement and was signing up for suicide missions, but that was quickly discarded

I know this is just paranoia, but I swear Marvel Unlimited is stalking me. I read a giant block of books and then about a month later they add a pile of related back issues to what I've been reading. I read through the clone saga last month so now they add a ton of the early Ben Reilly as Spider-Man appearances this week. Statistically I know it has to be a coincidence; read enough back issues and give yourself a six week window and there's bound to be coincidences like them adding a bunch more appearances of a minor character you've been reading or adding more issues of a series. It's just freaky how often it happens...

My insane theory that Marvel Unlimited is stalking me continues to develop. Once again this week, all of the back issues added were directly related to things I've read in the past few weeks. More Ben Reilly Spider-Man after reading the clone saga (at this point I suspect that they're just going to fill in the rest of the Spider-Ben stuff a few issues at a time for the next month or so). Read a bunch of She-Hulk and the remaining parts of the 70's series are added. And most damning of all, I noticed a certain series was missing even an entry in the Marvel Unlimited series list so I read a decade old limited series revival just to see if I could trigger things; four weeks later Thunderstrike appears.

I am definitely going to use this power for evil instead of good. What can I read to get Nightcat added to Marvel Unlimited?

Edit: Ooh! Even better! US-1! That one I think I can just read all of the Razorback appearances!

A friend let me borrow the TPB of Jupiter's Legacy and it's not terrible. I feel like Waid did better with 'evil superheroes in power' but it's readable. No booby-trapped vajayjays or whatever.

One of Millar's new corporate comics for Netflix (the Harry Potter with Sex and Swears, not James Bond But Black or Lobo with Sex and Swears) involves a magician character introduced with her narrating the story that she's such a natural-born "escapologist" that her first trick was to "escape" her own abortion:

A very cool and necessary scene that does what only speculative fiction can: make TWO women the nameless dehumanized vessels for a single fetus telling an anti-abortion story
