I recall Duke 3D making me occasionally ill but I barely played Blood back in the day and it hasn't made me ill so far playing it now. Crazy high speed player movement has sometimes made me ill going back to the original Doom. Certain levels seem to exacerbate it (like a bunch in Doom episode 2 triggers it easily) but dunno why. I'm not sure if head bob makes a difference but more modern games with a lower player speed almost never do it (Doom 2016 did a little a few times). Like I have an insane number of hours in the entire Elder Scrolls series (Arena through Skyrim) without ever getting sick. When I can feel it starting to happen I know it's time to exit and do something else. I almost never get motion sickness in planes, boats, or cars so it's weird.

Only time I get motion sickness from games is if the FOV is too narrow. Thankfully most PC games have a way to fix that even if it sometimes involves third party programs like Wide-screen Fixer.

I'm loving the hell out of that Vanilla Essence mod. Being able to switch to Doom as it looked in 93/94 when I want is excellent.

Excellent. Any idea when GOG users can expect the patch? I don't often get games that get patches on GOG, or at least not in the patching phase so I'm unfamiliar with the process, barring hearing complaints about it taking longer. I assume within a couple days?

Does that cover just about everything major? I've never played Blood so I'm not gonna notice the small stuff but I wanted to wait for the larger issues to get smoothed down.

Civvie was complaining about the Life Leech but I wasn't sure what was wrong with it. I guess it's not doing quite as much damage as it should or something? I dunno, I have no frame of reference, I never played that deep into Blood before getting Fresh Supply, someone with more experience will have to tell me how that weapon is. I haven't been using it in Fresh Supply though because it just seems worse than the tesla gun, which I think is also true in GDX?

Glad that the GOG version is getting prompt patches. It's not in the website downloads yet, but can confirm it's on Galaxy. weird that my old saves won't load, but my quicksave will.

The life leach in fresh supply is much worse than it should be including in the new patch. edit: you can put nblood into the directory and jump between them, nblood is pretty close to the original so you can see which things are worse/better/different like nblood has more authentic sound simulation and physics but fresh supply controls much smoother. Using the latest beta patch, none of the windows in Death Wish E1M7 seems to break unless I use explosives. Is this intended behaviour? Seems a bit off.

chaosapiant posted:I might give this a go tonight. I can't click the link at work; is this a full on map pack, or just a level or handful of levels? Five playable levels plus one bonus unfinished map at the end that was originally meant to serve as a hub and final boss fight arena for the other project.

I think it took me an hour and half to finish the tribute to The Shining back in the day.Convex posted:I don't know, after playing Redneck Rampage nothing else seemed anywhere near as bad. It's a doozy playing through RR and the expansion/sequel and then playing the expansion made by a different team. Clearly Suckin' Grits on Route 66 had less coders and artists working on it, but the levels were at least not so Byzantine.

Yeah, you do start to realize why the industry moved towards linear level design after you've killed everything in the available areas and then spend the next 15 minutes hunting for that button, door, or key you missed.
|
# ? May 15, 2019 22:40 |

I never really had that problem with Duke Nukem or Doom though. The level designers seemed to understand how to make keys, buttons, etc. stand out so you understood where to go and what to do next. Even if it was something as simple as making a door you just unlocked on the level make some kind of noise or whatever, or like in Duke Nukem putting a button next to a security screen where the camera was pointed right at the door that just opened.
