Is is the law or something that demands that Will Smith includes that drat "Woo!" in every song he performs?

Also, much like the live-action Beauty and the Beast, this has absolutely no life in it. It's so bland. Like, people are in costumes, but there's no clever action or interesting camera movement to engage the audience.

Someone should redo this and the Lion King in a medium more appropriate to larger-than-life, eye-catching visuals, I think it'd really help sell the story they want to tell.

Oooooooooooh!

I mean, people love/hate Moulin Rouge, but it had a frenetic energy that made the movie kinda like a cartoon.

These movies just end up feeling like a high school level adaptation. I couldn't get through more than 15 minutes of Beauty and the Beast. It just made me want to watch the original.

Yeah, there's a definite ... lack of energy to that clip. Smith is mailing it in vocally, there's tons of color and pretty costuming but no effort to show it off, the camera isn't doing anything, it's all just kinda there.

I am going to assume Will Smith just doesn't have much power behind his voice. I prefer the Robin Williams version, but that version will still be there for people to chose. It does look lovely though.

It's really slow — everything moves really slowly, from the actors to the camera. If you pause it and look at a still frame, it's an OK approximation of Bollywood, but it's terrible in motion. A real bollywood music video picked completely at random will have 100x the energy of that Aladdin clip.

Yeah I thought the same, but I just watched the original and it was a lot less energetic than I remember until the end when they start listing his assets, so maybe the energy builds after the clip cuts off? That said, Will Smith definitely sucks at singing and can't give any personality to the character like Robin Williams. I want to hear Demi Adejuyigbe take a stab at it because that would probably be unironically a lot better.

That's completely fair, but I would argue (perhaps unfairly) this isn't going to be compared against the actual original so much as what everybody remembers the original to be. I had the same experience going back to the old one. Was totally blown away by how tame it was compared to my memory of it. That doesn't make this new one seem any less dead, though, and a lot of folks aren't going to be bothered to go back and check anyway.

Yeah for sure on being compared to memory vs reality; I originally had typed "they may have been limited by animation but there's no reason why they couldn't make it more exciting now" but figured I could give them the benefit of the doubt since it's only the first minute of the song and I can picture it building up and getting better. Unfortunately for them, even if that is the case, what they are showing looks bad and I don't know why they released it.

This is the problem with remaking these Disney films. They're all shot for shot remakes, which is a stupid idea anyway, but especially when the main character was so dependent on the previous actor who improvised most if his lines. Will Smith probably could make a good genie if he put his own spin in it The issue is that he's playing the Robin Williams genie and it loving sucks.

Will Smith was always a bad choice for the role, but that awful choreography and direction certainly isn't helping to hide it.

If you're going to make a knock-off of Commando, you need some ridiculously OTT action and/or (literally) killer one-liners to showcase in your trailer. This has a car flip, a snowmobile tackle, and, uh... not much else. (Except for Richard Dreyfuss trying to out-ham Lance Henricksen in Hard Target.)

Actually backing off that a bit since Wicker Man comparison really is just the style of dress and implication of human sacrifices happening. But I stand by I think it’ll be another swerve
