Ren has returned, now her and SJWSpidey are planning on running blockchains. This is a good thing because ComicsGate has been negatively feeding off their tweets for awhile now. SJWSpidey is probably going to still do his ComicsGate screencapping through incognito windows.

It's this, yeah. I was very confused when people started talking about it because I couldn't figure out the connection between Twitter and Bitcoin other than that libertarians love them.

I too was wondering how an immutable anonymous ledger would prevent people from being dipshits; but it's not the stupidest thing I've heard blockchain proposed for so I'll roll with it.

Having spent far too much time paying attention to Bitcoin idiots, I can promise you, it does the opposite of preventing people from being dipshits.

Actually I think they got bought by somebody else (who already owned Lion Forge), but it was mostly the Lion Forge people who got shown the door.

It's weird, Polarity is the "diversified global media company" that was founded by David Steward II, son of David Steward. A few years ago Polarity appears to have been formed when Lion's Forge/Steward bought Magnetic Press (and also The Comics Beat blog, and some other stuff). The merger between Oni and Lion's Forge essentially seems to be consolidating all of the comics imprints they (Polarity) own under the "Polarity Pop" banner, though in doing so they seem to be consolidating/privileging the Oni offices over the LF ones.

It's a privately owned company so things are a lot less transparent, but if Disney purchased Star Wars and decided to lay off most of the Marvel staffers in New York and cancel a lot of Marvel titles and move the new Disney Comics office to Burbank it's still technically [the company that owns] Marvel obtaining Disney, but it wouldn't be great for Marvel even if Isaac Perlmutter got to stay on the Disney board.

But yeah, as that tweet thread shows, people were kind of shittily laid off on both sides of the Oni/LF merger.

It isn't, and it may well be extremely uncool, but I also work for a small organization that has twice in just the past couple of years leave acrimoniously (the acrimony being more on their end than ours) who then logged into their work accounts and deleted giant swathes of shared files, e-mails, and in one case appears to have like straight up bleachbit'd their work laptop. I don't know if it was any sort of cover-up for a final 'eat poo poo' act but I have some level of sympathy for wary IT dudes (assuming Oni/LF has one of those and it's not some office person trying to figure out what is going on).

That said, everything else she describes in the thread removes most of the benefit of the doubt of them resolving this well or just exercising an abundance of caution with online credentials.

Yeah, it's a really tough line to walk with former employees with IT stuff. I used to work at a IT firm and one of the most common things we'd see when someone was let go or fired was them returning to their computer right away. Sometimes it was to delete stuff they knew shouldn't be there (why so many people store porn on work computers I'll never understand) but a good chunk of it was to delete files they were working on or erase a partially-completed project as a final 'screw you.'

That said, yeah, the entire rest of the situation is enough to erase any possible goodwill.

You know, I just can't understand this. When I was let go during a layoff at my first job, I was informed 2 months in advance and I was given an additional 6 weeks to look for a job. All of this was paid. I never got on their case and I even gave them some wine on the way out and got references from them. They invited me to the Mets game and I got seats in those areas where they have a buffet and bar inside that is only for you. I left I'm really good terms. And I was able to find a job and I'm now doing pretty well. I just don't get screwing over your old company because that could eventually f*** you over. They can probably sue you.

Edit: to explain, they took me aside and told me they were going to do a layoff in 2 months and told me that I was being informed in advance and asked me not to tell anyone else. They were only going to tell the ones that were being affected and didn't want to start a panic. Then, they took me in for the obligatory actual layoffs. And as part of our agreement I had six weeks paid to find a new job before I was officially taken off payroll. That was two months where I just showed up knowing that I had lost my job. And 6 weeks where I wouldn't even have to show up and was still getting paycheck. Though, as an accountant, it's still pretty hard to find a job when it's just after busy season. Because that's when a lot of firms are explicitly not hiring. But I eventually got a job.

While you are right that it's 100% ideal to leave your job on good circumstances, a lot of people don't get that choice either through their own fault or bad luck. Many companies kind of treat employees like poo poo and while it isn't smart that level of mistreatment can build up in people until something sets it off. I am not saying it's good or worse but it's usually the end result of a lot of built-up pressure and so people make a bad/angry decision.

Sometimes your job is incredibly poo poo and the people you work with treat you less than dirt and when you are laid off or fired it happens with no warning.

Personally every time ive been let go it was either just all of the sudden at work or a couple times just a phone call from the manager saying im fired, and i cant say ive ever known someone who was given the royal treatment either

So if you're looking ultimately where Ethan's hatred of women comes from, just read his brother Noah's Eisner nominated book that goes into their lives growing up.

Ethan's family was poor as hell and his father was a POS who ripped apart their kitchen with his bare hands. Since they didn't have the money to fix it, they just lived without a kitchen.

Ethan hated his mother for staying with his father and viola. The Republican poo poo comes from the fact that he BOOTSTRAPPED from poverty into conning incels of their lunch money.
