Bovada has updated their odds and has Chris Beard #1.. which just will not happen.

His kids are in Lubbock and he just signed a loving massive deal (4th highest paid coach in the country) and I think his buyout is like $12M right now.

From all accounts Beard loves it in Lubbock and he is treated like a God there. He should turn that into his program, like Coach K at Duke or Izzo at Michigan State.

Surprisingly, only $3 million buyout ($6 million for an in-state or in-conference team). But his kids being close, his girlfriend being in Lubbock, and him being a top 10 paid coach already make it unlikely. Plus, I think he already proved that you can compete for a natty at Tech with lowly recruited players, plus you can recruit top tier players to Tech, and that'd be the main reason he'd leave.

OTOH, Beard has bailed on a program a couple weeks after signing a contract before so...

I agree with you, but if Michigan wants to play around they can offer more money than Tech ever could. I don't think that'll happen, but I really loving want it to.

E: Jesus Christ, apparently Billy Donovan may not be contacted because this whole Al Horford saga where he decommitted promptly from Michigan and they believe he was paid too. We're gonna get Porter Moser - well being a good team was fun.

He makes about 4.5M now a year, Michigan can afford to offer him $6M, so why not?

People are saying Gregg Marshall, but he doesn't want to seem to leave Wichita State, but that'd be a great hire.

Nah

People are saying it’ll be Shaka Smart and from the sources who are saying it, I’d place my bet on him. I really dislike him as a coach too.

Should have just went with Juwan Howard.

The way I've seen it described is that Michigan can either go Clean and Maybe Win, or go Dirty and Probably Win. Beilein was somehow clean and won and you're not likely to get that again.

Jordan is definitely squeaky clean, but would he win? Eh.

They also need to figure out if you can throw $Texas at the program, or if the Michigan Basketball program just exists to be a good Michigan showcase for the football recruits. Apparently the basketball program only nets about $10-15 million, while the Football program nets closer to $70 million.

Warde Manuel wanted him over Kevin Ollie at UConn until Calhoun made a poo poo fit over it.

Plus he has a history with people in the program and grew up a fan apparently.

shaka can recruit and his 40 minutes of heck can work with dudes who will buy into it

there are lots of places he could turn it around, i just don't think texas is one of those places (at least, not if he insists on running milquetoast offensive schemes and relying on long athletes to sort of bumble into steals instead of pressing)

Weird - I say the same thing about Shaka’s VCU run.

I also dislike his defense, especially after Michigan has bombed them out of the gym every time they played it.

The thing is - too bad we cannot get Charles Mathews back, because Michigan’s team last year would have ran that defense extremely well.

Bone tested really well at the combine but I'd be surprised if he doesn't come back. He has a chance to move way up next year if he excels in taking on a bigger role.

Oh yeah a few days ago Chuma pulled out of combine interviews but announced he's staying in the draft for good, seems to be on the cusp of the 1st round and he's happy with that. Jared Harper got a combine invite off his G-league event performance so he's gone too.

Every single year the Ivy League takes a break from fucking up the world through its various alumni to fuck up everyone's bracket instead.
Mamadi Diakite seems to be leaning ever more toward returning to UVA, given that he didn't make the Combine this time around. There'll be a chance for him to assume a pretty big chunk of next year's offense, so he will have the chance to play his way into the draft. And if he doesn't make it then he can still go pick up paychecks in Europe or Australia or somewhere.
