One of my first real magic games was with a roommate who had some of those commemorative decks they used to print, with the special backs, one of which was Slide. Not the ideal way to be introduced.

There's no way they give us improved Slide but don't give us improved Rift, right?

I think the new version is a way cooler move. I like that they created a new version of an iconic card without the dumb and annoying part, but gave it a bit of a power boost to make up for that. I think it's going to be a lot more fun to play with after the first couple of times you play the mirror. IDK if either version is good enough for Modern as it stands, though.

out of curiosity, given how much smaller print runs used to be, do you think the old slides would've significantly affected the price? (assuming it were good enough for modern, which is a big if, like clancy said)

Consider investing in the Amonkhet duals they're probably going to spike being the only cycle lands in modern (also the deserts but they're commons).

(assuming it were good enough for modern, which is a big if, like clancy said) I went and bought an FNM Slide and Rift to use in EDH decks/cube thinking they would be reprinted. Instead I just get to make a cool 5 color cycling deck with 2 slides and rifts, so I'm happy.

Looking at all the decklists here, https://magic.wizards.com/en/events/coverage/mtgochamp18/2018-magic-online-championship-standard-decklists-2019-05-17 I actually like Autumn's Phoenix list the best of the bunch. Lots of Esper control and midrange, RDW, WW and a surprising amount of Jeskai, both control and the superfriend variety. I'm genuinely surprised nobody went with Grixis but it's possible the format hadn't gotten that far yet.

Somehow managed to go 2-2 in WAR limited with a BR no rares pile. Somehow managed to beat an Oketra, but turns out curving out and slamming with a huge Dreadmalkin is Pretty Good. Also, played against a GR Huatli deck that played piles of the 0/3 reach for G and the 1/3 spider and then smashed my face in with Huatli's ability.

I drafted the BW version of this last night: I did my best to draft UR, and it cost me nothing to draft the cards I did, but there were no blue cards and red dried up after a few picks so BW it is. Never saw any B or W removal but those were the open two colors, which let me play my P1P1 Citadel. Huatli was excellent in this pile, even though I never found any War Screechers, since it made my bad creatures huge and gained me life for Citadel. I loving hate bot drafts.

flusterstorm is the worst BAB imaginable since they’re introducing a really powerful new card into the format with an incredibly tiny and limited supply and there’s even already demand for it from other formats in a word: lol

moush posted:Is it even good in modern? Not really. I can see it as a one or two of in dedicated control decks and a sideboard card against storm. But, Phoenix doesn't care about their spells resolving as long as it triggers the birb and thats one of the few decks that actually casts multiple spells per turn on the reg. And midrange and control decks already have to worry about/play around poo poo like Stubborn Denial.
