) hauler. I swallowed my pride and tested out a used Honda Odyssey yesterday and wasn't crazy about it. It won't fit my bike inside without taking a wheel off so not much better than a sedan or wagon. I might be looking into a Buick TourX since they're cheap and there are leftover 2018s out there on dealer lots they may be looking to move cheap. Have to test out how they fit with car seats still, though.

Regardless of the tires I buy, I always expect to replace em every 2-3 years. That's a hard pill to swallow at nearly 200/corner for potenzas. 90 à corner for the firehawk indy 500s though? Hell yeah, that's better than most of the lovely all seasons. Always take corners at 35 if it's not into a parking lot.

Powered rear hatches are the best goddamn thing and car journalists always bitch about how slow they are and yeah maybe some are particularly bad but like... ...you just hit the button before you get to the car. It makes loading groceries or whatever way easier. I've never used the foot sensor ones though. Also your car rules. What do the side decals say? I can't make it out in any of the pics.

I'm considering doing something insane and buying a *real car* instead of limping along shitheaps. Is a '19 (US) FiST still a good idea vs very lightly used 18s? There are brand new 19s around here for 19k, and sub 15,000 mile 18s for 16-18k. I've never had a new car or a warranty before so I don't know what I'm doing

A 2019 FiST is almost identical to a 2014 mechanically, aside from a tweak to the rear motor mount in 2016. Electronically, they switched from MyFordTouch to Sync 3 in 2016 and gained a backup camera in 2019. All of the differences can be easily retrofitted to older models. If the warranty is important to you see if you can find a CPO car, but honestly with the FiST it's still a Fiesta underneath so its simple, reliable, and cheap if things do go wrong. They're pretty solid mechanically too, they'll hold up to basically anything you can do with the stock turbo and fuel system without complaint. People generally don't start breaking parts until they're north of 350 HP and usually north of 400. The backup cam isnt the "easiest" retrofit though. I still have put it off for a good bit due to fishing wire being a royal PITA plus you have to gently caress with your car computer using forscan. i mean conceptually its easy sure but practically its a pain. then again lol if you need a backup cam in a fiesta.

I'm a backup camera convert. Before I got the GTI, I always thought people should just LOOK AT THE MIRRORS/OUT THE GODDAMN WINDOWS. Today I was backing out of a crappy corner parking spot and it was super helpful. Backup cam 4 lyfe. Question for the thread: I'm considering getting new wheels (since I've stopped clipping curbs on a weekly basis), but holy poo poo, analysis paralysis is kicking in and I don't even know where to start. Even just going to Tire Rack and looking at OEM sized wheels is overwhelming. Help?

That's the best part about backup cameras IMO. I always turn and look backwards and watch my mirrors when actually backing up, but once I get to the last foot or so the camera is invaluable to let me know exactly where my bumper is.

Of all the tech in cars for anybody to get upset about, a camera and live view on a screen has been a thing in some way or another for approaching 100 years. Sticking it on the back of a car is helpful and non-intrusive. There are better things to be unhappy with.

Just replaced all the brakes on my mk7. What a pain in the rear end. Ran about 6 hours to do pads / rotors. Working on a volkswagen is the literal opposite of working on a BMW. I really enjoy the car most days but I will be looking forward to trading it in in a couple years. The engineering involved is just baffling to me in so many ways. It's the absolute definition of a disposable car. I'm not necessarily sure that's a bad thing, but it's a totally different paradigm to my previous ride. I will not be keeping it past 100k. Everything these days has paper thin sheet metal and turbos and complicated electrics and weird fasteners. Makes for a terrific driving experience, as long as you trade in every few years.
