Much like any game, there's a bunch of different categories for Morrowind speedrunning. Getting to the end credits as fast as possible uses the scrolls, the lock-pick insta-kill bug, etc. and takes just under 3 minutes at this point (not counting loading screens).

That glitch will be used to make All Main Quest runs a lot faster. I think the record is a little over 17 minutes not counting loading screens.

Yep, Volvulus got 17:32 (without loads) using that escort bug the day after it was found.

We do still use the scrolls in All Main Quests, but they're now used to jump from Tarhiel to Creeper.

Looking at the 19:46 main quest speedrun on youtube, it looks like they do the corprus part of the main quest out of order by doing it after they start the Nerevarine/Hortator quests. How does that work?

It doesn't work on Varvur Sarethi because that quest completion is scripted differently than Ahemmusa (and Zainab) Nerevarine, unfortunately.

Those two quest chains don't affect each other in any significant way. So we can do either one when they're most convenient in the route, as long as each individual chain is done in order.

Also what WhiskeyWhiskers said: luck is part of the buff-up spell.

I experimented with this a bit out of necessity when I made the mistake of making a mod that had escort quests in it.

It's reliably easy to trigger to the point where you can generally guess when it will work, but there's no actual way to explain it and sometimes you just have to shrug and go "it doesn't work with this character today" and #JustMorrowindThings

We've been scratching our heads about why it works ever since we discovered that if you escort Falura Llervu to just short of the door at the other end of the Tel Aruhn Underground using Command Humanoid it instapasses [the escort part of] Zainab Nerevarine.

Got me a new game of Morrowind up and running with the new MGEXE, latest MCP, the Neural AI texture mod, Tamriel Rebuilt, and then the new graphic herbalism. All in all a pretty basic game. Any hot new shits out there I should definitely look into? I haven't been following the latest MW mods in a while aside from the occasional mention in this thread. I hadn't used this one before, I'll check it out tonight. Thanks!

Edit: I have a confession to make: I still loot everything by disposing of corpses because I'm still afraid that if I play the same character for 400+ hours and leave all those bodies on the ground, my game will implode. This nugget of insanity has been instilled in me since 2002.

Anyone else have any crazycool rituals they follow?

Another thought Edit: Is there gooncensus on the best magicka regen mod? I'd like something that keeps it similar to Oblivion levels of regen (unless you use Atronach of course) that takes your skills into account. I think the one I used to use was called "fair magicka regen" but wanted to know what the wizards in this thread thought?

I used to do that all the time but recently stopped because it respawns enemies if you come back in and the corpse is gone.
I quit buying armor and weapons unless it's a specific thing I really want. There's no mechanical reason to not pick chitin asap right off arrile if you're light armor, and that same set will take you to glass. Boring. Take it off a guy you murderated.
For years I used to do the same set of starter quests on new characters. The basic seda neen ones, but I quit that recently too.
Always shut doors when you leave are you some kinda barbarian?

I sorta wish there was a way to easily add or remove mods without jacking around with mo2 or merging folders or w/e. I'm half tempted to figure out a way to use git to manage the game as branches or some poo poo lol. MO2 is slow as gently caress, but I always have this feeling that i'm loving up the mods -- recently someone posted about the "Who's there? Goodbye" problem and I noticed dudes from TR were saying it but I don't know why.

I like Tribunal Rebalance and Bloodmoon Rebalance, they're great! Also an objective opinion and not because I made them both too.

So yea...quickloot is loving amazing. I hadn’t kept up with any of the MWSE mods so I thought a lot of these were going to be super janky, but nope! It’s super quick and easy. I installed that along with UI Expansion and weapon sheathing and they work so seamlessly it seems to be part of the game. I’ll take a look at that magic regen, thanks!

For the past 17 years of playing this game, my first hour routine has always been the same:

Give ring to fargoth
Take quest to find Fargoth’s stash
While waiting for night, go loot tax collector corpse
Finish fargoth stash quest
Finish tax collector quest by killing dude
Lower difficulty to zero and rest until an assassin shows up
Kill/loot assassin
Immediately go to guards, then ebonhheart and mournhold to disable assassin attacks
Finally go to balmora to clear my quest log

After doing this ritual I usually have 800-1K septims and can get some decent starter gear.

I also shut doors behind me.

I recently thought how I never beat Morrowind because I got all the way to the Hortator of the houses part and they gave me a book to then go find the people and talk to them and I was done.

So I loaded up the game learned how to apply the patches. The increased cell loading thing is pretty loving nice and gives you the view distance of a normal game. I played for awhile but then just said gently caress it lets use this alchemy I read people talk about. Got unlimited cash and used trainers to lvl to max level and then started playing the game.

It was pretty ok and I finally learned that Bethesda hasn't learned anything from quest making in all these years. Traveling was ok with mark, recall, and super jump. Tribunal and the half of Bloodmoon that I have played have both better than the Morrowind story. I also can't believe how many guilds have you just kill the previous guildmaster to become guildmaster.

no no this is all wrong

    For good characters you
  • Tax collector and depending on skills Tarhiel might not be worth an in-depth trudge. Collect all the blue flowers on the way. Eat any mushrums or whatever for kicks, even if you're not alchemist.
  • Do tax quest and scoop that axe and other Fargoth holdouts like the cup. It's probably not Fargs' anyway.
  • Kill the smugglers and free the slaves, use the ring. Collect more coda flowers you see. Get the thief ring. You might have to buy a weapon first.
  • Give the ring to Fargoth and sell all the poo poo you don't use right this second. It might take a couple trips and the ring could recharge in that time. Make sure it's empty before you give it to Fargoth. Sell the drugs to some cat.

For badguys you do the same thing except you also rip off Fargoth and keep the ring. Reorder it some for speed / do the quest different if you feel like it

Also if I don't feel like doing the main quest for a bit I leave the coded package and anything I wanna keep but can't use (like books) in the census office while I hit up the mainland or w/e.
If I feel like doing the main quest then I make sure to loot all flowers worth like 5+ bucks cause that poo poo adds up when you're level 1, then I buy that turn undead from Peligiad's cleric, and whatever applicable spells. Then you gotta remember to kill the smugglers in the nix hound cave, but NOT the guy with the huge hammer unless you know you can take him.

At that point you have drat near a full suit of light armor and some decent ok ish money. Eat all those fuckin heathers too, gently caress it. Even fighters want some alchemy so you can read what's on the goddamn label of the bottle.

Or if you're a wanderlusty kinda guy instead of going that way swim up the Odai. I rarely get mentor's ring unless it's a serious mage.

If you're a beast guy don't bother giving a poo poo about a helmet until you find someone to up your unarmored. Your feet are always naked so not dealing with helms (that you half can't use) slightly speeds it up imo.

I carefully take all a corpse's gear off them and set it on the ground, then hit the dispose button. I may not want to carry with me all their crap, but I don't want it to vanish. Since Morrowind NPCs are static, no one will bother my little piles of loot, and I can come back and pick them up whenever I like. It's relatively tidy.

If I loot a dungeon close to a town like the one south of Pelagiad, i'll take a couple trips and throw everything not bolted down on the floor in front of merchants. Then every time I pass by i'll sell until they spend all their gold and keep doing it until it's all gone or there's a reasonable amount to bring and sell to the next guy

There are mods that add beast boots. The trick is that they only cover the ankle part, not the foot part, so they can be equipped. Combined with an open-faced helm, you can have a fully armored cat or lizard nerevarine.

No, not a convention.
I just realized that Morrowind has tainted how I’ve played open world games for the last 15 years. Having little, cool items hidden in seemingly random places, like the Blade of Woe on a shelf or the ebony armor on the plantation, encourages exploration and sneaky swipes. But what it also trained me to do was to check every single house in every single village/town/city and try and grab anything not nailed down.

I just get so burned out on any Elder Scrolls game, or even Witcher 3, because I just can’t stop myself: what if there’s a really cool weapon in one of these houses? I need to check every container! :suicide:

Witcher 3 and New Vegas are the only open world RPGs that still have that level of detail and mystery in the world. Walk in any direction in any of these games, ignoring the quest markers and poo poo, and you'll find tons of cool details, easter eggs, and hidden items off the beaten path. Oblivion and Skyrim aren't terrible in that regard, but they are noticeably worse.

I still think Skyrim has the best dungeon designs. Quite a few are cookie cutter, but most of the Dwemer ruins and stuff like Blackreach and that long dark cave in Dawnguard are awesome as poo poo to me. I also love the huge expansive sewers/caverns/Dwemer ruins in Tribunal.

Edit: A couple of mod requests: I'm looking for some good tree replacers that stick to the vanilla style and don't look super out of place. Also, what is the "go to" grass mod these days for both the main game and Tamriel Rebuilt? And do any of them keep the Ashlands empty of grass, because it's supposed to be dead. My new Morrowind philosophy is that I don't fast travel anywhere until I reach it on foot first.

If it's an island town unreachable by land travel, I use abot's boats mod to travel there in real time, or swim. (If a crash interrupts the journey, the journey counts as complete.)
