Some here were very young, or not yet born, when the Lumberjack Wars began; however, all Americans should never forget the brave men and women who answered our nation’s call and served the cause of freedom in a special way.

The government gave me a monument when my wife died. It's called a headstone.

There's already a bill in the House that would help surviving spouses far more than a monument ever would. It's HR 553, a bill to repeal a benefits offset that unfairly affects military surviving spouses (including Gold Star spouses). You are not a cosponsor of it.

Last week some Gold Star wives went to the Hill to talk to you about it. You hid in your office while they were there and your staff was rude and condescending to them. When they saw you try to sneak out of your office after you thought they'd left, they attempted to approach you to ask you to cosponsor HR 553. You ran away from them.

Congressman, you are a self-serving coward, attempting to grab attention at the cost of the very people you claim to honor yet can't find the time for.

Jesus, it's like there's a competition to come up with the worst possible opinion regarding military survivor benefits.

quote:

easy fix for this, completely do away with the VA compensation fund. There's no need for it. Obviously, the government was not at fault for your loved one's death. They volunteered to join the military knowing the risks involved. So, having to pay a monthly amount for agreeing not to hold the government responsible is ridiculous and unnecessary. So, not only can the government save money by simply doing away with that fund completely, but, then these widows would have nothing to complain about because there would only be one check going to them.

Always, always when you meet someone like this, ask them how big their last government cheque was. 9 times out of 10 they're getting one.

That particular strain of Republican is just god drat looney tunes, and I have no idea how to communicate with them. The instant I hear the phrase 'All taxation is theft' I give up all hope of the conversation having any sort of useful outcome and I just poke at them to get a glimpse of the crazy and see how many looney tunes phrases I can get out of them. 'Audit the fed' is usually not hard to get as they almost universally have heard the phrase but ask them to explain what the Federal Reserve actually does and you'll pop the lid on their crazy.

I'll give the guy credit, he has worked for every penny. It was my exwifes uncle in FL, so I spent many an afternoon drinking and smoking with him. He lived in a run down shack in the bad part of town, ran his own company(which he ran honestly, aside from being a little shady on taxes), and rode his harley around the rest of the time.

Fun guy as long as we stayed away from politics.
