cgfreak posted:sadly they also want to basically abolish our social security system, dismantle public transportation and kill all brown people and the like Her school's budget used to be pretty poo poo already, but these refugee kids obviously need more time/attention cause they are behind on the language; so my aunt is pretty pissed off cause she is busy enough already. Ofc she blamed them for coming here and asking for the same resources to be used to facilitate more children. I argued that she should instead be angry at the government not giving her more aid / a class assistent or up the school's budgets so classes can stay smaller. She agreed. Her husband was ranting about high taxes and poo poo for all of them getting free stuff, and I argued that corporations should pay their fair share so the direct burden on the population goes down; and that instead of taking "the free stuff" (for the sake of argument i wasn't going to touch that one) away from people in need they should vote for parties that also want to give more "free stuff" to more than the absolute poorest people. I also went over wage stagnation and stuff like that. He agreed. At least they aren't outright against refugees, just frustrated with the system and taking it out on the easy target and buying into the media; not that excuses it. Even so I already know for sure they voted on a right wing party anyway. Zedd has issued a correction as of 16:16 on May 27, 2019 |

the far centre has been pretty radical lately, they've been pushing their agenda of moving absolutely nothing and enforcing the status quo since the last recession.

I did vote, but I'm not that surprised a lotta people are increasingly ambivalent towards Europe; I also have the notion that since the 90s the abstention rate has been quite high, dunno if it's right but feels like it.

It still kinda is and its slowly being worked out. It's just that there's a crop of people mad that the right is being associated with that. Oh and anyone who might call that crop of people shortsighted gets screamed at for being anti-free speech and a pooowwppuhiiist.

Sheng-Ji Yang posted:is there a reason why FI and melenchons support has dropped so much? why have they not been able to be an effective opposition to macron? FI has been pretty dumb for like a year, thinking the left wing vote is beholden to them so now the solution is to go after nationalist minded voters, alienating a lot of their left wing base in the process. It's a big reason why the left wing vote was so fragmented compared to the presidential and parliamentary election in 2017. you got people like this guy accusing people who disagree with FI's "populist" current of being left wing islamists https://twitter.com/AtheeJim/status/1133235897040867328 A big example of this was a "Populist nationalist" quitting FI for the FN because of militants being in favor of inclusive writing lol basically melenchon and co should clean house with nationalist, soverainist types and stop chasing the fn's voter like all the major parties, and go back to its left wing roots which made it big in 2017 Thankfully some people inside of the FI realize that something has to change, hopefully they're taken into consideration: https://www.nouvelobs.com/elections...obox=1558986389 (MP Clementine Autain is a major figure of the left wing of FI)

genericnick posted:No idea myself, but from French people I know he looked like an idiot in the video of the police raid on his headquarters. Its more that the FI went into a nationalist populist direction that displeased their left wing electorate from 2017... They did some really dumb poo poo to attack the "elite", such as giving platforms to pretty lovely people (including a straight up nazi...). Results : no alliance could be made with the minor left wing parties, so the left wing vote was divided and demoralized.

basically melenchon has been doing the "anti-elite anti-globalist" thing, but forgot to be left wing in the process

here's how melenchons voters in 2017 voted in these elections https://twitter.com/l_peillon/status/1133380207803555840 36% stayed with LFI, 19% switched for the Greens, 11% voted for the Communist Party instead, 8% went for the Socialist party, 6% for Hamon's Generation S. (Also 4% went to the FN, 3% went to Dupont-Aignans DLF (another right wing nationalist soverainist party), 3% went for Macrons LREM and 1% went for the federal european centre right UDI) So basically most of Melenchon voters went for other left wing/centre left parties

What happened to the gaullists/ump/lr? Last I read up on them was during hollande's term and they were going through a nasty succession fight with sarkozy Would they expect to do better in a general election as opposed to EU, similar to the UK conservatives?

i say swears online posted:What happened to the gaullists/ump/lr? Last I read up on them was during hollande's term and they were going through a nasty succession fight with sarkozy basically LR is useless now, their bourgeois liberal right wing voters went to LREM and Macron, while their economically anxious voters went to the FN and Le Pen. All that remains for them is conservative christian family values, which they tried this election with Bellamy, who was big into complaining about scantily clad women, abortion and islam. There's basically two currents inside the party at the moment, the "be more like Macron" and "be more like Le Pen", current leader Laurent Wauquiez is from the second current. I've heard Sarkozy feels the need to come back lol, I guess he's the only one who could "save" the party, I guess, he's still popular among the base, and he's good at aping the far right. I don't see them doing well in a general election, but I could be wrong, maybe if Sarkozy came back and manage to take voters away from Le Pen. Kurtofan posted:vote per age in french elections this graph shows that their electorate is quite aged at this point...
