ill watch john rambo kill just about anyone, but this definitely looks like a step back from how good rambo (2008) was for sure.

Thematically it has nothing to do with the rest of the series. The first 2 were about Vietnam, the III had to do with rescuing COL Trautman, and RAMBO was about him becoming at peace with himself and finally returning home. Rambo's story is told, there isn't any more to say about him at this point, other than maybe a commentary on the actions and views of aging Baby Boomers, but this doesn't seem that self-aware.

I got the impression it was one of those "crack team of Navy SEALS or whatever get deployed to take down Rambo after he becomes a loose end" type movies Which makes the First Blood references make plenty of sense

It came out, wrapped up in 6 issues, and sat on the shelf forgotten. It really felt like a pitch for a new AMC 'Prestiege' series when that was still happening.
