Alright, who wants to watch John Rambo kill... terrorists? Central American cartels? Uh... some people who want his ranch?

This does not look like a return-to-basics Rocky Balboa type situation to me.

ill watch john rambo kill just about anyone, but this definitely looks like a step back from how good rambo (2008) was for sure.

Thematically it has nothing to do with the rest of the series. The first 2 were about Vietnam, the III had to do with rescuing COL Trautman, and RAMBO was about him becoming at peace with himself and finally returning home. Rambo's story is told, there isn't any more to say about him at this point, other than maybe a commentary on the actions and views of aging Baby Boomers, but this doesn't seem that self-aware.

I got the impression it was one of those "crack team of Navy SEALS or whatever get deployed to take down Rambo after he becomes a loose end" type movies

Which makes the First Blood references make plenty of sense

The new Rambo should've been John protecting a family of immigrants from ICE.

Looking into it, apparently the story revolves around him rescuing a girl from a Mexican cartel. So no Navy Seals, nor any timely political statement.

Somehow I'm both disappointed with the amount of CG in this new Dark Crystal while also impressed with how well it integrates with the puppets? I'm down.

Also Netflix announced Season 2 of Dark (which will have 3 seasons or "cycles" as they're calling them in total). This is one of the better shows on Netflix so I'm super stoked.

Also, this is just me I'm sure, but when I look at this movie I just see Sly. I don't "see" Rambo from this trailer. I'm not sure what would do it besides a headband and a mullet. I'm not sure what it is.

so what? Yes I agree.

Adrian Grunberg, director of this movie, a man I've never heard of before, is apparently a collaborator with Mel Gibson, a fact 99% of the free world would have no clue about.

I'm one of the 99%. I don't know this person, but upon looking at his IMDB page I can see he's done a lot of work that take place in Mexico, so perhaps that's why he's involved?

Hmmm...

Holy poo poo, they're making a movie?

I read the comic when it was coming out, nothing really special. It came out, wrapped up in 6 issues, and sat on the shelf forgotten. It really felt like a pitch for a new AMC 'Prestiege' series when that was still happening.

That said, it looks just like the comic. Fine, unexceptional, and undoubtedly will fail to make a mark and go on to be forgotten.

er... I don't know if you've kept up with the last 3 movies but part 2 basically created the POW/MIA conspiracy bullshit, 3 has him helping anticommunist guerrillas, and 4 has him saving persecuted Christian missionaries in Burma

these movies have basically been your grandparents' horrible chain letters forever

they're very easy movies to turn your brain off and enjoy in spite of this, because the bits with Stallone blowing people to poo poo are great, but... they have pretty god damned gross politics and this one almost certainly will too
