I’m highly considering driving up to Brooklyn from Atlantic city next month to go to Koch’s warehouse. So, that.
If you care about this sort of thing, that bronze statue of Captain America is only about ten blocks away from Koch's now, in the lobby of a shopping plaza.

There's also an Industry City game room with an incredibly janky arcade cabinet of Marvel vs. Capcom if you just want to stroll through warehouses doing vaguely superhero-ish things for an afternoon.

Some teeth long for ripping, gleaming wet from black dog gums. So you keep your eyes closed at the end. You don't want to see such a mouth up close. before the bite, before its oblivion in the goring of your soft parts, the speckled lips will curl back in a whinny of excitement. You just know it.

It is wonderful and charming, although the plot has recently been in a rut and spinning its wheels and there's warning signs that it's going to careen into classic Adam Warren kill-'em-all nihilism if it ever starts moving again.

That said, it stands exactly one micron off of the line of being actual softcore bondage porn, and it's entirely understandable that that's never going to be some people's cup of tea. For those who can handle that, though, you'll find a lot to love, not just in spite but because of it. Warren's inspiration for the series was that he does bondage porn commissions, and he kept drawing the same anonymous superheroine in them, and eventually he started to wonder just who this girl was and what could possibly drive her to keep going out and trying to be a superhero when she'd inevitably end up tied up and humiliated. And as it turns out, the answers to those questions are really interesting and have led to a unique story with great characters. Empowered wouldn't be half the comic book it is if it wasn't right on that line.

It's a very horny book that also happens to have a lot more depth, charm, and personality than a fetish comic should ever have. I like it, but I totally understand that it's also a book that a lot of people just won't want to read for the obvious reasons.

Yeah. I mean, Adam's got the first couple books' worth of material on his webcomic site. Give it a shot and see what you think, although it does start off way closer to Emp's roots as commissions for superheroines in bondage so you'll have to power through it. Or you don't feel like you want to, which is also fine.

I spent the weekend at GalaxyCon Richmond and had a great time. The dealer room was disappointing (I wanted to buy some HCs/trades to get some creators to sign and there were almost none to be found), but there was a ton of cool panels to go to, the celebrity booths were never super busy, and they had free wrestling shows every night. More comic creators would be welcome, too, though. Worth the trip!

How Wonderful!

Meme or not, thank you for sharing the panels, I otherwise would not have ever seen them. I don't have any nostalgia for the Transformers and no real interest in digging into the comics but that seems like a nicely handled plot beat.

The Transformers comics by IDW are actually pretty Progressive. There are a lot of same-sex couples and trans characters. Actually one thing I do find interesting is the first trans characters introduced were transbians in a transbian relationship.

It wasn't always this Progressive. As a matter of fact, there was a minor controversy with this issue because the writer made it clear that they wanted to handle this subject matter better than the previous writer did and that caused a little stir. But they certainly knew what they were talking about because they handled it very well from what I've heard.

More Than Meets The Eye and Robots In Disguise are outstanding comic series mostly throughout and essentially revitalized the transformers fiction after Micheal Bay made them into walking piss/dick/racist jokes or psychopaths

well there's psychopaths in the comics too but they're proper ones instead of flat out give-me-your-face ones. wait, there's those too, but they're not portrayed as the loving hero of the series, at least. I heartily recommend them as genuinely good sci-fi adventure comics. It's basically Star Trek/BSG-style universal exploratory shenanigans most of the time, and is set after the 4-million-year-long intergalactic war between Autobots and Decepticons(the focal point of almost the last 30 years of transformers) comes to an end. They're basically like "poo poo, what now?" and a bunch of characters decide to take this huge experimental spaceship on a wild goose chase to find some mythical group that might not even exist. Also, Megatron eventually is put on board as punishment for his crimes and his entire arc is pretty loving outstanding. It was so good that like a dozen formerly no-name garbage characters got revived as remade toys because they became popular in the comics. Like, Rewind and Chromedome, or Whirl and Brainstorm, who the gently caress knew about those jobbers until James Roberts made them into memorable characters?

I have a code for the Humble Bundle that includes the entire runs of both as well as most of the rest of the IDW transformers comics, if you're interested and willing to actually read'em and give your thoughts on them so the code doesn't go to waste(and comp me for the code, I think it was 20 bucks for the full bundle)

So I think I'm going to start a pull list for Hickman's X-Men and the shop I go to wants at least five books. I'm also thinking Black Cat, becausethat seemslike the kinda book that will need early orders to survive, but for the last two I'd like something non-superhero non big two with a low issue count (single digits) so I could easily pick up floppies of all the back issues. I really like Kierron Gillen, Matt Fraction, Kelly Sue Deconnik is hit or miss for me, as is BKV. Anybody have recommendations? I'll cross post this in the indie thread

Don't suppose you've read Descender and haven't picked up Ascender yet?

Other than that, for brand new indies I'm liking Little Bird and Faithless.
Clue Candlestick and Michael Oeming's Dick Tracy just started, and I think they're fun, but they might lack if you're looking for solid narratives.
If you liked Squirrel Girl, Erika Henderson does art on the new Assassin Nation. That's worth checking out if you're a fan of cartoony violence.
American Carnage from Vertigo is real good if you can stomach white supremacists for villains. That's seven issues old.

Sometimes you pull an immortal hulk from the start. But usually you dig in dollar bins a year later and find books you paid full price for and haven’t read yet.

I pick my subscription books based on a couple things:

Creators I want to support (this is the biggest one)
Cool concepts I want to see more of (big 2 anthology series, big 2 artist/writer books)
Series or imprints I’m invested in (Birthright, Curse Words, the Black Hammer Universe, the Young Animal universe)

The chance of getting a return is no chance at all, because I have no intention of selling my books anytime soon. Comics is an expense, not an investment. Hell, I have two full runs of Sandman and I just haven’t bothered to sell one of them.
