Someone who pays much closer attention to this than me, what the gently caress is going on with the SNP at the moment? I know there's some infighting because of Salmond being accused of improper behaviour and the resultant handling of that by Sturgeon & co but other than that I hear very little about it. It just seems interesting because it's the first time in decades the SNP actually seem to be airing grievances somewhat in public.

Salmond left the government and is still on good terms with Sturgeon. Some amount of the actions being taken against him are by the Scottish Civil Service, or appointees to the Scottish Government from Westminster, e.g. those who aren't holding party allegiance first, which is why it's as public as it has been I think, but mostly there's just not the political will to abuse this. Salmond is still well enough liked, or at least not actively disliked, and the other parties don't want to compromise any investigation that's ongoing. The Greens don't want to fracture too much from the SNP because that'll likely just solidify the indy vote under SNP even more Labour don't want to touch it because they've got enough things on their own plate. The Tories won't touch it, because it too easily becomes hunting grounds on the Tories The Lib Dems won't touch it because

Apparently Sturgeon has some indyref 2 info after Easter, but I'm sceptical of any big moves now that Brexit is extended til October. Or maybe that's why...? I reckon she'll hold off until an election which the SNP are projected to win massively.

Latest polls are putting Labour about 10-15 shy of a majority. If Scotland did go independent, Labour would have a majority. Labour would also likely have an effective majority, as the SNP could likely be given a bung to whip to abstain on a majority of votes.

The SNP wouldn’t need a bung. They’ve successfully used Labour’s indyref platform sharing with the Tories to paint the unionist parties as being ‘all the same’, but it means they can’t credibly threaten to vote against a minority labour government.
