massive fines for unoccupied dwellings. rewards for whistleblowers. Fines compound annually until the fine is larger than the cost of the property (govt decides what that value is), at which point that property becomes owned by the Public Housing Crown Corporation. Any dwellling with an 'unoccupied' fine currently levied against it has all rent from people that DO live there placed in PHCC controlled escrow, PHCC has authority to spend any money in the escrow account on repairs to that property as requested by the current occupants.

non negotiable beheadings for any property owner that opposes this

Add to that a mandate that actually ensures affordable units are built by developers. None of this "ten affordable but not really" units in a high rise condo, but a number based on current requirements in whatever city the building is being built. If you're going to build out into the edges of town, for every 20 single family McMansions you put up you have to pay for a 20 unit affordable apartment and a playground.

Fuckin' while we're at it, build affordable nationalized housing units that aren't all in the lovely parts of town.

yeah the idea is that the guillotine-deserving class, freaking out about having their properties eminent-domain'd, put everything they have on the market at whatever rate that gets somebody to move in TODAY and that starts a competition to out-lower their neighbours with empty houses

the fact of the matter is there are more empty dwellings than people, so lots are getting their poo poo seized by the PHCC

Holy poo poo Justin just loving going all-in on inclusivity. I don't know why you'd drag all of those social issues into the MMIWG inquiry. Also just lol forever about this tweet when you remember Justin hasn't done a loving thing to fix the Indian act and completely reneged on his promises to the first nations.

It's lovely that the whole Genocide/Not Genocide thing is linked to MMIWG which is just too small in scope and makes the argument devolve into semantics. It's real convenient to do it though because that way you don't have to get near the issues caused by Indian Act still existing and the larger more systemic problems that are definitely causing a genocide. Let the plebes bicker over MMIWG while the reserve system creates 3rd world shitholes conveniently out of sight and out of mind and the imposition of our system onto their way of life ensures their languages and cultures go extinct.

Yep, governments can implement the convenient 20-30% of the splattering of progressive recommendations that they were going to do anyways and everybody feels good that we're meeting part way.

How about a class action human rights lawsuit against the police? Doesn't having incompetent or biased investigators violate several sections of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, namely s.7?

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/rcmp-mmiwg-reforms-1.5160206

quote:

RCMP will 'give careful consideration' to MMIWG recommendations, says commissioner

The head of the RCMP won't commit to the recommendations coming out of the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls inquiry, which denounced decades of police 'indifference' and called for fundamental policing reforms — but RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki is promising to review the report.

The inquiry called out "long-standing indifference from the police," which it said contributes to a "relationship of distrust and animosity."

The report recommends that the federal government establish "robust and well-funded Indigenous civilian police oversight bodies" to prevent police negligence and misconduct in rape and sexual assault cases.

"The RCMP have not proven to Canada that they are capable of holding themselves to account — and, in fact, many of the truths shared here speak to ongoing issues of systemic and individual racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination that prevent honest oversight from taking place," it reads.

That man definitely has friends who strangled a sex worker to death, or two.
