Or the animations. I reload way more than I need to in Fallout New Vegas just for the gun porn.

If you have to have it then make reloading a minigame. Jamming a clip in with shaking hands in the heat of a firefight can be tricky. And make the minigame really loving long and annoying. That'll deter people from reloading after a couple of shots. It's so wasteful. De_dust used to be a beautiful place to take your family for picnics, now it's just a shithole with nearly full rifle magazines knee deep.

The game Reciever was not bery good in just about every facet except its obssesive and unconventional control scheme for reloading that was different for all weapons and nearly guaranteed youd inevitably die due to it in a gunfight.

lert's imagine GTA5 as a realistic sim. every time you steal a car, you get stuck in LA traffic until the police shoot you to death. 14 day waiting periods on handguns and california AWB compatible long guns. cars that actually fly off the road and kill you when you corner too fast. old man michael has to stop the car and find a restroom to piss every few minutes in each mission. hospitalization leaves you deep in debt no matter what. what a game it could be!

The reloading mechanic in GoW was good, the damage boost felt just enough to make it worthwhile and the gun jamming if you messed it up was a neat downside, just a great mechanic.

The Gears games were great overall, chainsaw-rifles are iconic for a reason, the sniper rifle felt weighty, popping the heads off Locust was a joy. Yeah it had some dumb vehicle sections and the plot was barebones and over the top in a eye rolling kind of way but they are nice 5 hour long experiences which felt good to play.

  • Every 3rd person game would be better in first person
  • Default first person FOVs are way too small, I get that they want people to play from the couch but ui text is, without fail, way too tiny to read from couch. So then you sit closer to screen anyway and all the sudden you're playing with binoculars strapped to your character's face. Still better than 3rd person.
  • Aiming down the sights to be more accurate should not be a thing that exists in 90% of fps'. I'm all for an optional zoom button, but shooting from the hip should be just as accurate in a video game.
  • RPGs that give you enough skill points or level ups or whatever to max everything are not fun. Make me use my brain a little bit. And I'm boring enough in rl, let my character have an identity via a build at least. A good RPG should only give me the option to be proficient in like 25-30% of the stuff depending on my build. Games that let you get access to all the skills or whatever should just ditch pretending to be an RPG and give you access to everything from the start and be designed around it. Not every game needs an inconsequential leveling system.
  • The Witcher 3 is boring as poo poo.

esports tournaments should all be marathons from start-finish. stop pretending like you're real sports. time of day doesn't matter. weather doesn't matter. no one is going to tear an acl or get a concussion from playing too much in a short period of time. there's no reason gamers should get more down time during tournaments than real athletes do in meets and tournaments. after the tournament starts just play til somebody wins.

On top of that GoW 1-2 were the only two games in history to do cover mechanics well

Meanwhile in Gears of War 3 you can just main the chainsaw and never even fire bullets. I kinda gave up after that one.
