Seth Green was on today's Comedy Bang Bang promoting his feature directorial debut, so I looked up the trailer (I don't think it's been posted here yet) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n89-JZun6Gs Hoo boy. I'm guessing they cut the trailer to sell the movie as broadly as possible. I doubt they'd get Macaulay in just to say some trite inspirational hokum. Is "White people going on a life-changing and 'inspirational' vacation" its own genre yet? Also how does Seth Green still look like he could be in frat movies?

Took a look at that list of A24 movies and realized that most of the only decent films I've seen in the past three or so years were on that list. What do they have coming out soon that has some positive buzz?

Under the Silver Lake is still rolling out to some theaters, but it’s worth watching on VOD regardless

The Lighthouse will come out at some point this year. It is the second movie from Robert Eggers (The Witch). It debuted at Cannes recently and everyone loved it. More info: https://bloody-disgusting.com/reviews/3564819/cannes-review-lighthouse-nightmare-sea/ quote:Fans of Robert Eggers’s 2015 horror folklore flick The Witch will be delighted to know that he has managed to pull off a second feat in nightmarish world-building with his sophomore film, The Lighthouse. Much like how he immersed audiences into the depths of the forests of 17th-century New England four years prior, this time he leaves viewers to their own devices on a secluded island in the year 1890, populated only by the film’s two subjects, Ephraim Winslow and Thomas Wake (played by Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, respectively.)

I hope the Oscar buzz is real or at least a Golden Globe for Pattinson to shut the loving mouths of all the comic book idiots slagging him for getting Batman. It’s goddamn annoying.

I remember all these Batman movies where the most important factor to determine if it was good was how well the lead could play a smug billionaire and also a stoic guy in a suit.

Trailer to Ad Astra, the Brad Pitt movie that's already been moved twice this year. Looks... bland? Bad trailer, at the very least. And possibly overall bad—there's certainly nothing that caught my interest outside of a neat shot or two. What's the hook supposed to be, exactly? Interstellar but less interesting?

The date was moved because the director was a perfectionist in post, supposedly. His previous films were all really good as well, though hard to market and not big audience hits. I’m in, just for his track record.

Yeah, I was gonna say, the hook is that we get another film from the director of The Lost City of Z.

This sounds fascinating and amazing, The Witch was such a surprise and a masterpiece for a freshman effort. Also what appeared to be the full, final trailer for the Joaquin Phoenix Joker played before Godzilla and it looks completely gonzo.

I feel like I was the only one who was underwhelmed by The Lost City of Z. While I did enjoy it, the movie felt more than a little clunky in places and stuck too closely to the generic biopic formula and plotting. The pacing and editing felt like they were constantly pushing back against that, with all the exploration scenes cut short like an abridged version of what it could have been. But I'm probably just being too hard on it as a victim of hype.

Also worth noting, because I'm not sure it comes through in the trailer, but the film is said to be 2001 meets Apocalypse Now.
