sidenote: i'm pretty sure TAS is going to break up soon? they didn't play a single post-wormwood song on the knocked loose tour (maybe dust in the helix actually) and now they're playing headlining gigs at teeny tiny venues, which is both awesome and strange. feels weird for vincent to recruit all new members to keep the band going and put out new records but then never play the music written by current members live.

Their last album was pretty bleh, a first for TAS. Probably finally hit the enthusiasm divide that other bands hit 5+ years before them?

Yeah. I really liked Coma Witch a lot, but Gravebloom is super forgettable to me outside of Model Citizen which slaps hard. If their next record is another Gravebloom then I won’t be that sad to see them go. They gave us a lot of good poo poo.

I don't get that feeling from Vincent's Instagram account - he seems to be having a blast and feeling TAS more than ever: https://www.instagram.com/p/BwiyqMZlrCC/

TBF, playing teeny tiny venues seems to be Every Time I Die's favorite game, and I don't see them stopping any time soon, even if the next record seems like it'll face an uphill battle given how insanely loving rad Low Teens was.

They also love opening for big bands at large venues that are terrible for seeing a band like them. Like they’re opening the Mastodon/Coheed tour this summer and opened for Fall Out Boy last year.

I'll be at this show next week and I am very excited, I haven't seen Mastodon since they were touring for Crack the Skye, haven't seen Coheed since they were touring for Good Apollo 2, and haven't seen ETID since uhhhh Warped in like 2013?

I just mean the first part of the set. They’re probably just playing Crack the Skye and leaving, though maybe there will be an encore.

I was at that 2009 tour too by the way!

I'm still ok with this, their old stuff kicks rear end and the new stuff is solid, but CTS is by far my favorite album of theirs.

I just want a Leviathan 15th anniversary or like a band 20th anniversary where they play super old poo poo from like Lifesblood. But also Brent can’t scream anymore so I don’t blame them for not seeming interested. I was pleasantly surprised to hear a couple of Remission/Leviathan era tracks last year.

Fair, though I'm still surprised that all 4 bands are still active. I started listening to/met guys from all 4 bands at around the same time (2002-2003).

Mastodon not only still being active but having been the same four guys the entire time (outside of one demo) is insane, especially with how drastically their sound has shifted.

I really like it, it shows they're pretty much creatively united as far as where they wanted to take their sound. I prefer the older stuff, but the newer stuff is still really good.

ETID's touring habits are hilarious to me because it's either them headlining some tiny club and it rules or it's them opening for somebody truly unlistenable and I can safely skip it.

Got to afford the former by doing the latter, I suppose.

ETID can also reliably pack out the largest venues (excluding amphitheaters/stadiums) here in Denver as headliners, so them playing smaller clubs is very much a deliberate choice. Hell, last year they played a show at Streets of London, which has a max capacity of something like 60. I think the only time they've opened for a band I didn't really care at all about was when they toured with Taking Back Sunday. Also, ETID opening for Fall Out Boy made more sense than having Machine Gun Kelly in the middle spot.

No doubt. I caught them five times in one year and could have seen them at least 2-3 more times if I'd been willing to drive 1-2hrs. And that's a pretty normal year of touring for them. poo poo's nuts.

All of the touring, at any scale, is just to pay for their criplling addiction to 'TID The Season, which I swear I will attend one year.

I'm very strongly considering going this year. I figure Buffalo in December is about as close as we have to Hardcore Mecca, so it's time for this aging hardcore kid to make his pilgrimage.

and?
I went to the weird ETID/Coheed show in Baltimore last night. Keith was doing his best to get the crowd into it and it worked a bit. I mean it was 95% mastodon and coheed people so it was tough going, but they definitely turned a few dozen people into fans

Also coheed is such a better live band than album band but that’s off topic

I think Shoogzie is the only one of you I've managed to recruit for Brand of Sacrifice, but yo. This is shaping up to be a release of the year contender. Check out the tempo change @1:44 or the harmonic overtones @2:58. As a youth, I would listen to Suffocation and Devourment and wonder what slam would sound like if anyone with any discernible talent decided to play it. It took the creation of deathcore and blending of the two to answer that question decades later, but here we are. Full tape in one month.

Especially the adversity of hiring someone to murder your wife only to find out he's an undercover cop, I guess.

say what you want about tim or aild, but the video gives an interesting glimpse into what the rest of the band was going through during that time (albeit, in an overly sappy/dramatic tone throughout). i thought it was a good video with a good message. at least aild is working with a company to promote mental health as opposed to other individuals in the music/entertainment industry with dark pasts who just continue being a piece of poo poo.

Related, idk where Ghostemane falls on the soundcloud rap spectrum but he put out a hardcore EP a couple months ago and it's solid.
